There are many ways to improve your life. We are faced with many choices every day. Life can get confusing and it’s easy to forget to stay grateful for the things we have rather than focusing on “what we have not“. To visualize a goal or something you highly desire in your life can be hard for some people. So how can we make this task a bit easier? Well, there are ways you can make it easier for yourself.
Improve Your Life With Art
The brain is a mysterious thing. Some days, it helps us easily recall our very first phone number while other days, it blocks out where we put the car keys the night before. While even doctors and scientists are baffled by the brain, realizing that it does play a role in our daily lives can help us use it to our advantage and for our personal motivation and self development.
Art, for example, is a visual expression of something, someone, or some emotion. By creating art, you are allowing your brain to figure out how to bring the images inside of it to the media that you are using. What many people don’t realize is that by creating art pieces, you can also help your mental health and your confidence – even if you never show the pieces to anyone else.
Visualizing Your Dreams
If you have a dream of living in a certain house, you might create a picture of this house with pencils or markers. This helps to create the brainwaves and chemical chains in the brain that leave an impression in your mind. Each time you look at this picture, you will recall the reasons why you were making it and what these reasons mean to you. In addition, you will also be thinking and visualizing your dreams for the entire length of the project. You will be more motivated towards your goal.
Take some time to create some form of art each day to help you engage this creative side of your brain that wants to create a better reality for you. You don’t have to create something that anyone will see or that anyone would understand when they looked at it. This is a personal expression of your dreams and your feelings so that you can give them a permanent place in your brain. By turning on your brain, you may just be able to turn on the actions and the mindset that helps you get exactly what you want.
Manifesting Your Future
In essence, you are manifesting your future. You are setting goals and targets towards what you want in the future by creating it through art. If you don’t believe in writing your goals down maybe the “art approach” will work for you.
Have a most outstanding day

hi blog owner I surf around the net quite a bit, and there\’s a load of rubbish out there. It\’s good to find some decent content. Great blog. I hope you don\’t mind my link here too. Your post entitled For Art Sake! was just what I wanted.
Hi John. Thanks! Sure, I do not mind the link. All the best
We each have creative potential that we can learn to tap into differently. Its a question of learning to value ourselves, being willing to explore the nature of our hidden talents, and of accepting parts of ourselves that we had consciously or unconsciously put aside, rejected or devalued, without giving these parts a chance to flourish.
I agree Liara! Everyone has hidden talents just waiting to be shared with the world. It’s your time to shine.

I’ve been exploring your site and this last blog is so inspirational and it comes at a perfect time where I’m going to be giving lessons for people who want to learn how to draw. Like you say it is a way to express yourself and ease your mental health and there isn’t enough people willing to get together and express themselves to create a better state of mind than with an art class. This just shows we are all not just automatons we have spirits and passions no one realizes that need release in a positive way.
My teacher once told me: “Life is what you make it.” I plan on directing an epic one day, “For Art Sake”.
Thanks!
Hi Kim. Great timing! To think that is was a topic I nearly didn’t start on. Sometimes I get to concerned about what “the few” will say at the detriment of “the many. Now I’m happy that I posted it. Thanks for that!

Hey! Wow what a fantastic article about Motivation And Emotion! Your keen insight into Motivation And Emotion is informative and creative. I look forward to reading other articles you have. Thanks.
Hi Sean,
) but I love to put together a collage representing my goals. And as the old saying goes “A picture tells more than a thousand words”.
For Art Sake is a great reminder to visualize dreams and goals – not just think about them but put a real statement out there.
I was “taught” in school that I am not a very gifted person for art (a belief which I am no longer trusting
But I think any creative expression works for that, it might be in a poem, picture, sculpture or anything else. Because it connects the thinking with very strong emotion, which helps to deeply root that seed in your brain.

Hey Renee,
Just like you, I was not granted with a artistic streak (so said my teacher). But seriously what is so special about van gogh and Fabergé eggs – give me a break.
What I have recently begun doing is writing down my goals. Does not matter how big or small. Its on paper, its there in black and white and I am accountable for them. I am hoping that this method helps me to visualize my achievement.

You would not belive how many words a picture can tell. And it’s more than you’ll ever imagine. Interpretation is a wonderful thing & so is the ability to think outside the square – and that’s the key!

It’s funny you know. A couple of years ago I started dreaming about what I wanted for my future. I have found that along the way various things have happened and opportu nities have come along that are making that dream closer to reality. Maybe it is just my subconscoius mind moving me to do things to create the reality of the dream.
Hi Sean,
Like Renee and Cemil, I was okay at art but I’m a long way from being one of the greats. I like to draw when I have the time but I’ve never thought of drawing my goals. It’s a really interesting thought.
I’ve always found pictures of the things that I desire and put them on my wall. Or, I do things to help me get in the mood. For instance, I have a goal to visit France so I’m learning French and I go to eat at a French restaurant. It helps me to cement my goal in my subconscious and reinforce continually that it will happen.
Like I said though, it never actually occurred to me to draw or paint pictures of my goals. I think it would really help cement my goals in my mind. I’ll be giving this a go.
Art is definitely a great way to help visualise. But for the less creative among us this doesn’t necessarily mean that we have to create a drawing / painting that interprets our goals / hopes / dreams.
Another option would be to locate a picture or pictures which have special significance, which will represent what we are aiming for. Then just cut them up and make them into a collage, or simply display them with a bit of flair. This is still creative but without the technical hurdle involved with drawing /painting.

I don’t get any feeling towards creating art at all. I do use art books for my daily journaling tho because they give me a feeling of freedom of expression, and some of those pages become a little arty, I must admit.

Hmm Art wasn’t really my thing or writing down goals either.
I tend to do it a bit differently. When I am working towards something I will go and find a model which is similar. So it is physical and in front of me or where I can walk past it and got reminded of the goal

As they say Gee, each to their own. Work out what ‘works’ for you. There is NO other way. Enforcing our ideals onto others just stifles people, so I am glad you work to the beat of your own drum. Cheers to you my friend!
This is something I practice everyday!!! Without fail.
I keep all my senses tuned in the funny side to life and create a comic angle to what happens around me. For example, I’m driving to work & I hear the NSW Premier on the radio and because of her weird mixed Aussie/American accent I find it difficult sometimes to understand what she is saying – so my creative mind starts to think she needs an accent coach & who better than Paul Hogan. And from there I see coaching sessions that include Crocodile Dundee’s ‘That’s not a knife, this is a knife’ – practising the Aussie accent & then having a press conference showing off her new skill – doing that scene with a real knife freaking out the people of NSW.
This thought processes really help my life in so many ways. Problem is turning it off – especially when I want to go to bed. It’s like a child who wants to play!!

For Art Sake!!! Yep Visualization works and helps to attract all that you want and all that you need.
We used Visualization along with images, goal book and knowing within what we wanted and the outcome came about
I like the sound of drawing your image. That sounds like fun.
Cheers

G’day Sean,
I had the misfortune to have a rotten sour art mistress at school. One day she looked at one of my efforts and said ” Lynn, so much black – has there been a death in the family ?” Actually, there had, as my maternal grandmother who lived with us passed away weeks previously.
Imagine the effect on a 12 year old boy. So, I shunned all visual art until my late 20’s when I got my 1st camera. Then I made up for her rotten summing up of my artwork by applying myself persistently, learning lots of technique, and taking lots of pictures, including a few prize ones. That was my revenge ! Really loved my camera ! So I became creative in the visual arts after a long break.
My other artistic, creative area is playing piano for a living. I frequently just sit at home and play strictly for myself and create some art or compose. Not sure what it does to my brain technically, but the feeling of ecstacy is very therapeutic. LOVE IT.
Cheers

My camera is my best friend one of them are always with me, I used to painted also but haven’t had time for quiet a few years and keep telling myself I should go back to it I will soon
Bravo to you for overcoming your fear – there’s nothing like being put down by a teacher and then achieving success, even if it’s your own personal and private success. Getting a bad mark or disappointing comment on something I wrote always made me write more because I knew my writing wasn’t for everyone and a lot of people did enjoy it – myself included.
Expression comes in many shapes and styles, you don’t have to choose just one but sometimes it’s right to try them all.

I can’t recommend this highly enough! Exploring your creative side can unleash a beast. When you get in the flow, you will NOT believe what you can do. It will permeate throughout every part of your life.
Thanks for this Sean you have given me another way of looking at life and setting my goals, i never thought of this and it makes sense. I have always been able to relate to pictures and art so thanks for this thought.

What an original (I say original as I’ve only heard of writing the dreams down or cutting out pictures from a magazine) idea! Although my drawing ability leaves much to be desired I realize it’s the feeling of drawing it that matters. I will start this today and reap the magnificent rewards.

I could be in trouble with this one!
I can’t draw for …… crackers, and my visualization can’t seen to stay on one image for long enough before my mind goes off on a tangent (and with the way my mind works, some of those tangents can be pretty left field! *LOL*)
I guess that leaves me with the written word. (Which you may have noticed I have a tendency to also let get away from me at times! *LOL*)
But I guess visualization takes time and practice, and in the meantime, I can always cut pictures out of magazines and create a dreamboard.
Cheers,
Pete
