Tears In Heaven – Eric Clapton

Tears In Heaven. This song was made extremely popular with Eric Clapton from his famous MTV unplugged session. The boys from the Malolo Island Bula Band play their covers with style and do this song great justice. Yesterdays version of Lionel Ritchie’s Stuck On You, published on this blog, got a great reception, so here is another great rendition: Tears In Heaven.

I have many more of these. One that is especially good is a version of Norah Jones “Cold Cold Heart”. Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to publish it in here soon.

Enjoy!

  1. Great cover and a geat song despite it being inspired by such a tragic event.

  7. What more could you want? Relaxing by the pool listing to great live music, I love this song. The more of these clips you are showing the more I want to jump on a plane and check them out!

    • Chris – relaxing by the pool listening to great LIVE music are 2 of my fave things!!! The only thing missing is something great to drink… wonder what Sean drank? The perfect drink to round off the entire atmosphere!

Dancing is fantastic… mellowing out after a hard day of blog writing. Cause that kinda stuff just takes it out of you.

    Hi Sean,

These guys are awesome. It’s so relaxing just to listen to them. I love Norah Jones, so yes, please post ‘Cold Cold Heart’. I’d love to hear some of their original music as well.

  10. Nice Harmony. The tune can’t get lost with that lead.

Thanks – I’m keeping this tab running while I ‘work’.

  11. Hello Sean,

What gets me is how amazing they are as a team, how layed back, and how great they are at sharing their gorgeous band – without the hype of a rock band stage, without the hype of touring around and without realising what talent they have (they are not making a big fuss about themselves!!). They are so gorgeous, because they are so relaxed, I think I need to move Malolo Island πŸ™‚

    Cheers

    • Yes, good point Lisa. Just good ‘ol fashion singing and instruments. No flashing lights, fancy stage or perfect-bodied dancers in bikinis… Just singing and fun. Good food and drinks, oh, and good company all adds to the ambience.

  13. What I love about this song is the utter courage Eric Clapton had in turning a tragic event into a creative experience which then he gave as a gift to the world. I understand it’s the only way – as a fellow creative person who has had her fair share of tragedy – into something positive and cathartic! It’s a lesson to us all… thanks Sean for sharing this song.

YES, YES to Nora Jones. Her voice is so soothing!!

  15. Great rendition by the Malolo Island trio! Fijians have a great natural ability when it comes to music. It must be an islander trait.. Thanks for sharing this Sean!

  17. It is so nice to be able to hear the words to the songs, very relaxing as well. It will be very interesting to hear them sing Norah’s song.
Wonder if they are enjoying their “Fist full of Dollars” Debut!
    Cheers

  18. It seems like I don’t even need to travel, I can just play the video, close my eyes and I’m taken to a warmer place. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing and yeah, keep them coming.

  19. It sounds like Fiji has a strong place in your heart, Sean.
Your not alone, my Mum raves about the place, and has been 4-5 times.
It well known in my folks house not to bring up Fiji as a topic of discuss when my Mum is around. She can talk for hours about the place and the people. She says the Fijians love their music and dancing, oh and the rugby.
I will have to travel over there to experience it for myself, as it come highly recommended πŸ˜‰

  20. This is beautiful. I went to Fiji about 11 years ago and loved listening to the locals singing.

  21. I like the relaxed feel. maybe it is the island feel.

  22. A great version of a classic song. I only just realised that the percussionist is using a soft drink bottle filled with rice. Awesome!

So much modern music is packed with noise which doesn’t add value. I definitely appreciate having the right amount of silence in a song. These guys seem to have the feel for it, and good taste to boot.

  24. This is a great rendition of the song. Tears in Heaven is one of my all time favourites along with many other songs from Eric.

I can imagine how he will relate this song with the tragedy in his life. We tend to do that.

  25. I just love this song – for me it is one that I distinctly remember from my childhood. I think I was pretty young and impressionable when someone, probably my Dad, told me the meaning behind the song and since then I well up like a big baby every time I hear it.
