Dr John Demartini

May 27th, 2008

My wife, Cherie, is currently at a 7 day seminar with Dr John Demartini in Sydney, Australia.

Cherie and Dr John Demartini

You Are Who You Associate With

Someone once told me (several times) that you are who you associate with. What they meant was this: Hang around poor people and you develop a poor mindset. Hang around rich people and develop a rich mindset. The same applies to success, self improvement and peak performance.

So when you hang around for 7 days with Dr John Demartini, chances are his ideas are going to rub off on you. To someone who likes his ideas that is a good thing! I for one, am one of those.

Healthy body, healthy mind, right? Yes, indeed! And the opposite applies too!

Honey, I’m Off To Sydney For 7 Days - Do You Mind?

My initial reaction when Cherie said she’d like to go to the seminar was “Jubilant”. I agree with a lot of Demartini’s teachings. To have my wife there and learn from John, to me, is pure Gold! As much as I’d like to be there myself, well, let’s just say someone had to stay home and look after the kids (and blogs). My turn will come very soon and I am a great believer in crashing out of your comfortzone for maximum achievable growth. Taking me along would only make it more comfortable for her and that means less growth.

Besides! Who would post this story to you if I was galavanting across the country to seminars… ;)

One Defining Moment

Last year, I had one defining moment that really stood out in my mind. I was listening to “The Secret” 4 hour soundtrack with Rhonda Byrne (for the 13th time probably). Dr John Demartini said:

When the voice and the vision, on the inside, is more clear, more loud and more profound, than the opinions on the outside, then you have truly mastered your life” - Dr John F Demartini

That statement really means something! If you don’t get it - Read it again and again until you do get it. I listened to it over and over until it was burned into my subconscious forever. It is Gold!

If you have been to a Demartini seminar before, I’d like to hear from you in the comments section below.

Make Your Life an Adventure

April 15th, 2008

Making your life an adventureIn this crazy thing we call a life, there are a number of things we feel we should do: get married, have children, buy a house, buy a car, be nice to people, etc. But in the end, the only thing that really matters is how happy you are. To help you begin to make your life a happier event, you need to start looking at it as an adventure – not just a ‘To Do’ list.

Growth - Never stop learning

While you might not want to earn another degree (or your first degree), you should be more than willing to learn new things. Read lots of books about subjects that fascinate you. Take classes and try new things. This way, you are always encouraging growth and stimulating your mind and finding out what YOU like to do.

Lifestyle - Travel

Bora Bora island is lifestyleYou don’t need to go to Bora Bora to be well-traveled and experience lifestyle. Just driving around your local area and seeing what your town has to offer is plenty. Just remove yourself from the norm once in a while. Not only it is fun, but you often come back home more appreciative of what you already have. This develops gratitude and a sense of fulfillment. Seeing something new also makes you feel like you’ve achieved a lot more that day.

Gratitude - Meet new people

Too often we feel that we only need so many friends in order to be a good and fun person. But the more people we meet, the more we can learn about our worlds and how others perceive the world to be. Try meeting new people or at least just talking to strangers to keep things interesting. Develop what I call an Attitude Of Gratitude.

Mindset - Do one thing that scares you

Challenge yourself and build mindsetWhile this may have been paraphrased off of a famous person, it’s really good advice and it’s good for building your mindset. By taking a moment each day to do something that just terrifies you, not only will you learn how strong you are, but you will also find yourself trying new things that you thought were far out of your reach and capability.

The Perfection You Deserve

April 13th, 2008

Taking it to the limitLearning to accept that we can never be perfect is something that soothes us. By recognizing that we can only do so much, we are satisfied with the actions we take and the decisions we make – or are we? Do we crave for success? When we are giving ourselves the ‘out’ of not having to be perfect, most of us won’t try as hard as we actually could. In doing so, we aren’t reaching our fullest potential.

Be successful at being you

Try aiming to be perfect at whatever you want to do. Change your mind to think on what is possible, rather than all the things that aren’t possible. Give new tasks your all and attempt to do more with the things that really matter to you. Want to write a bestselling novel? Pick up a pen or open up a new file on your computer and start now. Take your time to craft it and hone it into something that you consider perfect. Sure, it might not be perfect to everyone else, but it’s perfect to you.

The perfection you deserve

The perfection you deserveHere’s the thing with perfection, even if we can never attain it, when we try, we can reach farther and do more than when we simply gave up on being something that’s even close to perfect. You can do more than you think you can, so stop making excuses. Get it in your head that you’re going to reach the level of perfection you desire, that you are going to do the things you think you can not do. This is the kind of thinking that will spurn you into action.

There’s a saying that says something to the effect of, “If you reach for the moon and miss, you’ll still land among the stars.” Every attempt that you make in your life is perfection – but you miss it because you think it’s just not possible.

Control Dramas and Pain Addictions

April 6th, 2008

Streching beyonf th elimitsIn your life, it would seem like you would do everything you could to avoid pain. After all, that’s the way our bodies are designed and that’s what our instincts were crafted to do. “Avoiding pain” is a great motivator, yet pain is not something most of us seek out. So why do we still experience so much of it?

The Motivation For Pain

You might want to ask yourself what your motivation for pain really is. This sounds like a trick question, but if you are honest with yourself, you might be surprised to admit that you do have a reason for being in pain. For example, if you notice that people pay attention to you when you have a headache, you might notice you get more headaches. If you see that you simply get attention when another drama unfolds in your life, you might (albeit subconsciously) encourage more drama in your life. This can also be referred to as a control drama.

The Vicious Cycle of Perceived Pain

Tinking it overIt can become a vicious cycle of pain that we don’t even recognize anymore because we’re so hooked. Only after sitting alone and thinking about our run ins with pain can we begin to see a pattern of our own involvement. Even when it seems like there’s no root cause to our pain, we can trace it back to a skewed perception of a situation, turning it into a painful ordeal instead of something that just rolls off our backs. Could it just be an excuse we give ourselves to bail out of another situation that we are not comfortable in?

Control Dramas and Comfort Zones

Pain is a pretty good reason to stop doing what you are working on right now! We tend to play out little control dramas to ourselves and make up stories and excuses that justify and give us reason to quit. Don’t recognize these symptoms? Well, welcome to superhero status! Most people have this ability. I fight off these excuses every day. Sometimes they come by thick and fast. I know that’s when I’m out of my comfort zone.

So how can we stop the perceived pain? First of all, there are some rules to life that you might want to begin following:

  • Emotions. Don’t take things personally
  • Concience. You aren’t the only one that has to do everything
  • Guilt. You don’t have to be anything more than who you are (or want to be)

Control The Situation

Reflecting on the pastYou can start this process of relearning your pain responses by writing down everything that causes you pain in a journal for a few days.

Once this time is over, look over the things you have listed and honestly assess whether you could have controlled the situation. If you could have, then you know you are inflicting your own pain. And now you can do something about it!

You can read more about Control Dramas in “The Celestine Prophecy” by James Redfield.

When is “Now” going to be the right time?

March 25th, 2008

Carpe Diem - “Seize The Day“.  When is the right time to build your mindset and motivational powers?  Hey! I’m making it sound like a super natural ability of a Marvel Comics Super Hero… but then again, isn’t it a bit of a super ability to have? Everyone wants it, right? Yet the ones who (say they) don’t need the mindset are the ones that already have it. So that’s why they are already so successful in life, across the board, aren’t they! Pardon the the sarcasm :)

When to start building your super abilities

Take action nowNOW! When is ”Now” going to be the right time to take action? Tomorrow? Well, sorry to break the news to you. Tomorrow is not “now”. There is only one “now” and that is the present. Tomorrow never comes. Tomorrow will always be “now” when you get there. What you put off untill tomorrow is a sure-fire way of telling your sub-conscious mind: “I Have No Intention Of Doing It At All“.  The only time to start is now.

Mindset building moments

We dont’ find a lot of spare time in our busy lifestyles. It seems that time is speeding up and there is less time in every day that passes. I could spinn off on a totally different tangent about time, but I wont (not this time).

Travel desinationsSo how do we fit it in? First of all, we have to have a burning desire to make it happen. Here’s what I do:

I fit it in when I am doing something out over the ordinary. In about 2 weeks, I’m driving a 4,600km roundtrip with my 2 sons to visit our family in South Australia. That’s approximately 46 hours of driving + breaks. What a great opportunity to invest some time in myself, whilst driving! There is some serious listening time I can utilize.

When is “Now” going to be the right time?

Now is the right time. Here’s what I’ll be doing on my 46 hour roundtrip:

  1. Learning basic French. It’s something I’ve meant to do for many years and have never started. Maybe I should have read my own article about five minutes to unlock your motivation. This time, the kids and I will be armed with audio CD’s with French Lessons.
  2. Supporting my kids dreams. A portable keyboard with speakers, will come along for the journey. My oldest son wants to be a concert pianist (beats being a traindriver, right?). There will be plenty of practice opportunity during the drive. I’ll also ensure I listen in at all times. After all, I want to support other’s dreams and goals.
  3. Listening to a mindset program. Last year I listened to Kurek Ashley, The Secret with Rhonda Byrne and a Public Speaking Course with Jamie McIntyre. I’ve got no idea which one to do this year. Any suggestions are welcome in the comments section below. Maybe Tony Robbins? It does however need to be kid friendly :)

OK. That’s what I’m up to. Needless to say, I have no excuse now. You can hold me accountable for taking action towards some of my dreams. Some of those dreams I have never actioned before! Isn’t it funny how we put things off and suddenly a lot of years have passed by?

One year ago, diarised

I posted these 2 posts in my Bullhunters Guide Blog (my first blog) almost one year ago. This will give you an idea what was going through my mind 11-12 months ago, setting out on the same trip to visit my mum and brother. Here are the links to the 2 posts:

  1. 1 week off every month with cashflow
  2. Bullhunter drives across the Nullarbor

Gone surfingEnjoy! I had a good laugh and recognise how much I was on the right track. I also now realise how much further down the path I’ve come in one year. It’s a fun journey of growth and self development.
