Mindset Mastery 33 - The Economics Of State Of Mind

August 14th, 2008

Mindset Mastery SeriesThe power of thought and state-of-mind is both individual and collective. Here Napoleon Hill talks about the power state-of-mind held over an entire nation’s, ultimately an entire world’s, economy.

“As evidence of the collective power state-of-mind has over people, this example is offered–

“The Great Depression started in the United States in 1929, and continued on to an all time record of destruction, until after President Franklin D. Roosevelt took office. Then the depression began to fade into nothingness. Just like in a theatre when the lights are raised so gradually that darkness turns into light before you realize it; the spell of fear in the minds of the people gradually faded away and became faith.

“This same concept has been proven time and again throughout the decades since. Today’s recessions come on more gradually than the Great Depression; any time there is a financial recession, it is directly governed by the attitudes of the people as a whole. When the masses believe the outlook is bleak, they act (financially speaking) accordingly; when they begin to regain hope, the populace spends more freely and the recession recedes again. This is an economic cycle that is repeated over and over, but there is never a single moment experts can point to that signifies the beginning or end of the recession. Instead, the start- and end-points are defined in retrospect.”

State Of Mind Governs The World

Consider this—if this were not the case, if emotion and state-of-mind did not govern national and world economies, economics would be a much more simple and predictable science. The fact that economics is not predictable to exactness proves that thought is a driving factor in wealth creation. This is why we here buzz words like ‘consumer confidence’ when economic predictions are made.

I will see you back here every Monday and Thursday for the continuation of the Mindset Mastery series.

Success Loves Wealth

May 24th, 2008

I heard this story told by Dr John Demartini. It has a strong message and I found great motivation in it.

Three old wise men walked up to a house and knocked on the door. A lady opened the door and discovered the three men standing there, all with long white beards. The first wise man introduced himself and his 2 friends as Success, Wealth and Love. He asked politely: “Is your husband home?

Sorry“, she answered. “He will be home late tonight

The 3 wise men asked if it was OK to wait until he got home as they had an important message for him. She approved and walked back inside.

Later that night, the husband arrived home. He noticed the 3 men at the back of the house, waiting patiently. When asking his wife who they were and what they wanted, she responded:

They are 3 wise men and they have an important message for you

Well“, he said. “Invite them inside!

She walked outside and invited them inside but they said she could only invite one in at a time. She returned to her husband and he immeditely replied: “Invite Wealth. We need more wealth around here!

The wife responded: “I think we need more Success. Let’s invite him inside

Their teenage daughter appeared and added: “We need more Love in this family! Let’s invite love inside

Both the husband and wife agreed and decided to invite Love inside. The wife walked back outside and invited Love. Love proceeded to walk inside followed by Wealth and Success. Once inside, the family were a bit puzzled. Why had they all come inside when they were instructed that only one could come in at a time?

When asked this question, the wise old man named Love said:

Had you asked for Wealth or Success, only the one you requested would walk in and that is all you get. Wherever Love goes, Wealth and Success follows

Love = Wealth and Success

The moral of this story is apparent. Love is an emotion and it’s even much more than that. It is the most powerful force in the universe. Love can not be destroyed by anyone but the being that holds it in their heart. Live a life of Love and you will be passionate about everything you do. Wealth and Success are a byproduct of Love. It is a reward for your gratitude in life.

Love is much more than a “Hollywood” stereotype of mushy feelings between 2 people. Love is empowering. It is something you feel for someone or something that goes so deep, you cannot explain the origins of it. You can have it for a child, an animal, a lifestyle, a cause, a passion… Gratitude is a product of love or even a precursor for love. Either way. it’s a good place to be.

Have a most outstanding day!

Control Dramas and Pain Addictions

April 6th, 2008

Streching beyonf th elimitsIn your life, it would seem like you would do everything you could to avoid pain. After all, that’s the way our bodies are designed and that’s what our instincts were crafted to do. “Avoiding pain” is a great motivator, yet pain is not something most of us seek out. So why do we still experience so much of it?

The Motivation For Pain

You might want to ask yourself what your motivation for pain really is. This sounds like a trick question, but if you are honest with yourself, you might be surprised to admit that you do have a reason for being in pain. For example, if you notice that people pay attention to you when you have a headache, you might notice you get more headaches. If you see that you simply get attention when another drama unfolds in your life, you might (albeit subconsciously) encourage more drama in your life. This can also be referred to as a control drama.

The Vicious Cycle of Perceived Pain

Tinking it overIt can become a vicious cycle of pain that we don’t even recognize anymore because we’re so hooked. Only after sitting alone and thinking about our run ins with pain can we begin to see a pattern of our own involvement. Even when it seems like there’s no root cause to our pain, we can trace it back to a skewed perception of a situation, turning it into a painful ordeal instead of something that just rolls off our backs. Could it just be an excuse we give ourselves to bail out of another situation that we are not comfortable in?

Control Dramas and Comfort Zones

Pain is a pretty good reason to stop doing what you are working on right now! We tend to play out little control dramas to ourselves and make up stories and excuses that justify and give us reason to quit. Don’t recognize these symptoms? Well, welcome to superhero status! Most people have this ability. I fight off these excuses every day. Sometimes they come by thick and fast. I know that’s when I’m out of my comfort zone.

So how can we stop the perceived pain? First of all, there are some rules to life that you might want to begin following:

  • Emotions. Don’t take things personally
  • Concience. You aren’t the only one that has to do everything
  • Guilt. You don’t have to be anything more than who you are (or want to be)

Control The Situation

Reflecting on the pastYou can start this process of relearning your pain responses by writing down everything that causes you pain in a journal for a few days.

Once this time is over, look over the things you have listed and honestly assess whether you could have controlled the situation. If you could have, then you know you are inflicting your own pain. And now you can do something about it!

You can read more about Control Dramas in “The Celestine Prophecy” by James Redfield.
