Dreaming – The Cornerstone Of Success

by uwc on February 27, 2008

Every single invention this world has ever seen, started as a dream. If it wasn’t a dream, it was probably a thought spawned from a dream. So why do so many people treat dreamers like they are so different. Sure they are different but that is a good thing. Parents and the education system discourage our children from dreaming by saying things like:

Stop Dreaming

He’s a Day-dreamer. He won’t amount to much

You want what? You’re dreaming!

Dreaming Is The Cornerstone Of Success

Isn’t it funny that we try to stem the flow of success in children at such an early age? Because that is exactly what it is; Success. Dreaming is the cornerstone of creativity and success. How else would you create something totally new, that has never before existed or been possible, that is science fiction now and a part of the future? Children are born with a natural abundance of creativity that most adults lose during their path of conforming into society.

Imagine you have a big idea in your head – perhaps to become a firefighter or to finish college (finally), but you find yourself sabotaging yourself again and again. You make excuses not to research these goals or you simply don’t actively pursue them, even though you long to make them come true. In these situations, you need to ask yourself where your dream is coming from and why you’ve dreamt it in the first place

From the time we are young, we are able to dream about things that are greater than ourselves. Whether it’s material things or it’s experiences, we hold these ideas in our heads. They often come from a longing to make up for something in our lives – for example, if we want to be a doctor, it might be because we’ve seen someone become very ill or we want to follow in the footsteps of our parents or friends.

Dreams can come from:

• Friends

• Family

• Religion

• Media

• Your talents

By discovering the root cause that has spurned you onto certain dreams, you can begin to motivate yourself to actually realize these dreams – even if it seems like they’re far out of reach.

The Image Of Abundant Creativity

Think of a dream for a moment. Maybe one that you had recently. Try to hold this image in your head as a reminder whenever you begin to make excuses or put things off. Or you might want to picture yourself in the dream situation. Think about all of your senses and what it will be like to be a part of your dream. Harness the adundance of creativity that lies within you.

Your dream comes from you and uncovering the “why” will help you get started. Though you might not be living your dream tomorrow, you will start living in the possibility of your dream right now.

Have a most outstanding day

Wow, you just have enlightened me with this post. I am a dreamer. I have lots of dreams like being successful in the field that I am right now, retire happily and contented in my old age. Eventually human as we are we tend to lose the grip, to continue reaching for our goals in life and make our dream come true. And I will personally consider your tip and start applying it to my everyday life.

“Your dream comes from you and uncovering the “why” will help you get started. Though you might not be living your dream tomorrow, you will start living in the possibility of your dream right now.”

Thanks a lot!

Dreaming is good! All inventions and intentions start with a dream. We punish people in our society for “dreaming”, yet they are the inovators of a brighter future. Is it somehow possible that some of us don’t want dreamers around to create a different and better future?

I think it very interesting that the Australian aborigines speak about “the dreamtime” when they are referrring to the creation of their environment.

“Is it somehow possible that some of us don’t want dreamers around to create a different and better future?”

I don’t think so.What we have today started with a dream. Thomas Edison and the rest were able to invent a light bulb because they dreamed of a brighter world. Martin Luther King dreamed of equality, and now we believe that all men are equal. All of us are dreamers and I believe we are striving to attain our dreams and goals everyday that is why we are living and heading a happy and successful life. ^_^

Let us all keep dreaming and then work for it.

I agree with you that non-conformity is often the key to realizing dreams. Many forces in the physical world seem to be pushing people to diverge from what they believe in or hope to achieve. To realize what you need to do to get where you want to go is the first step to really making it happen.

Just saw the Oprah episode of the author of Twilight – it all started as a dream. I guess that is a little different but at least she had the drive and passion to follow through…

Dreaming is important, otherwise I think nothing would ever change. Unfortunately as kids most of us get told to “stop dreaming and start working” instead of helping the child to create an action plan to turn the dream into reality.
I pull my hat in admiration of all the kids, youth and adults that follow their dream and make it reality despite all the opposition they have to face on a daily basis. We need more people that hold on to their dream and connect it with action. These people are great role models!

As you stated Sean – where would we be today if someone somewhere didn’t have a dream? That dream would not have been put down on paper and that idea would not have resulted in something.

The PC, , internet, iPhone – all dreams that have gone on to change the world.

Martin Luthor King had a dream. A very famous dream that inspired millions of people. It took a lot of hard work by many people and cost him his life but that dreaming had magnificent results and impacted on the equality for black people in the USA. And from that there are many oppressed peoples around the world who are still inspired by one mans dream.

A very powerful post. I completely agree that often people give up on dreams due to what society expects or demands of them. It is a strong willed person who can persevere with their dreams in spite of what others may say against them and their dreams. Hence why those who do are so important as an example to others.

The ability of children to have great goals and grand plans is something that should be cherished and fostered, lest it wither. Voltaire is quoted as saying “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. Wouldn’t it be great if people thought this way about dreams? That notwithstanding you might not agree with someone’s dream, that person (of any age) has a right to hold that dream, to chase after it and not have it unduly crushed. A bit optimistic perhaps, but the world sure would be a very interesting place with less conformity around.

I dream every day. It is what motivates me to keep on doing what I need to do to make my online business a success. I would love to say that I am making money online but so far I have not made $1. Yet every day I get up and do what needs to be done. I post, I search out training, I open my mind to new possibilities.

One day my dream will come true!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sean,

I have always been way too serious to live the life of a dreamer. I’ve always wanted a better life but I’ve been much more focused on the here and now. I did whatever I had to do to get through everyday. While there is some satisfaction in this, there’s not that excitement of doing something that makes you truly happy.

It took me a long time to realize that I should have dreams. I should be doing something that makes me happy as opposed to something safe. Now I am learning to live the life of a dreamer.

I guess we all start out as dreamers but Parents, schools, and society all try to “Teach” that out of us. Today’s children have so much more opportunity to allow their creative dreams to flourish from the start.
I have my dreams and I know I will realise them fully soon
