When you are heading out on a trip by yourself, you need to pack the right things in order to be well equipped. So when you want to travel toward your dreams, you might want to fill up your life and your bags with these success tools:
A Journal
By taking a moment each day to write out things that you want to do and things you have achieved, you will create a sort of diary of your progress. You will also have something to look back on when you get to any sticky points in your journey. You can often glean information from past success as well as advice from past disappointments.
Some people also find that they can use their journals as motivating pieces by writing down things that lift their spirits or affirmations that make them feel inspired. Or you can cut out pictures from magazines or other sources to decorate your journal and to remind you of your eventual destination.
Books
Suffice to say, there are many different books about self help and self improvement on the shelves of every bookstore. When you are trying to work toward success, try to find books that speak to you and your goals. Try out some of the advice that you find to see if someone else’s perspective might be helpful to you. You can also find books about people who are going through the same things you are and look to them for guidance when you’re feeling like you don’t know what to do next.
Magazines
By picking up magazines about the goal you have in mind, you can begin to envision your success more clearly. For example, if you want to travel the world, make sure to subscribe to travel magazines that show you exactly what you need to know about it.
Have a most outstanding day

I agree that it is important to get information to assist us in developing towards our own ideas of success. However, there are so many different resources available today, that sometimes there is way too much to fully absorb. So the ability to absorb what is relevant and filter out what isn’t helpful becomes crucial. Otherwise I might spend all day reading and no time actually doing.
In my view it is better to have a few really great resources that I really use and get a lot of benefit from, than a ton of ones that I might have started reading or plan to one day. The former really assist me in getting where I want to go, whereas the latter just clog up my shelf/computer/life.

Honestly, the only thing I would be lost without would be my computer (to Google more information about something I just learnt) and my to do list to write down the ideas as they come to me.

I’m with you on this one Lisa. Except I need a fast internet connection too. I was recently in a village in Thailand and had to make do with internet via the GSM mobile network. It was so slow as to be almost unusable. I remember the old days when we had dial-up modems at 1200 bps and now we have 20Gbps. Amazing breakthroughs come from the human condition of striving for constant improvement and invention.
But while I’m an internet junkie I still like to buy or borrow good quality books and magazines. There are some places a computer shouldn’t go and you’ll usually find my current book in the smallest room of the house.
I used to read lots of self development books. Then I did it. Then I helped others to do it. And then I wrote books about it. But now I am having too much fun writing comments on this blog to be too concerned about any of the above. Ultimately life is about joy.

Hi Sean,
I like your list of success tools. In the past this has been limited to some of my favorite motivational books. I’ve had written goals and pictures and props that remind me of my goals. I’m going to start keeping a journal of my progress and I’m looking forward to seeing what I learn from that.
But, I had never thought about magazines. The only time I really read magazines are at the doctor’s or the dentist’s office. I do, however spend a lot of time browsing the internet.
I guess it’s about getting a collection of tools that suits our individual personalities and lifestyles. And, using the ones that are the most effective in helping to propel us forward.
This is a great list, compact and easy to use AND pack in a bag. and of course we can get as creative as we like.

I have so many wonderful books – I would need to write a blog about it!
But one I highly recommend is “The Artists Way”. It also has great exercises in it.
Another one – just for me is called “The Comedy Bible” A great ‘how to’ book, stories of successful comedy writers & how they got to be where they are.
Collecting success tools to help yourself is the best thing you can do for yourself – hands-diddly-down!!
As far as a journal – what I have is ‘upteen’ journals all with my musings in them. Stuff that happens I know will come in handy later to write a funny blog about. It has helped me more & more… I am constantly ’seeing’ funny stuff everywhere in life now as a result of my expanded ‘funny’ awareness!

I have never really been one to read apart from the textbooks at school and Uni which was sort of a must
For the last few years I have found myself reading more and more. Whatever I can get my hands on, books, blogs, magazines. I am currently working my way through Tim Ferriss’ latest which I feel is helping me change my mindset from wanting to control and do everything myself to being able to site back and put into place the processes and mechanisms to not be so involved.

It’s all about taking personal responsibility for your own success by beginning with the foundations of building using success tools. You just gotta recognise the tools that will help us towards our own individual goals.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for the great tips here & I have started to do some of the things you have listed here like collecting magazines & books for success. The other part of this is actually taking the time to read them & is something that i need to pay closer attention to. I think your tip on having a journal is a great idea & will look into getting one very soon : )
