Collect Success Tools

by Sean Rasmussen on January 14, 2008

When you are heading out on a trip by yourself, you need to pack the right things in order to be well equipped. So when you want to travel toward your dreams, you might want to fill up your life and your bags with these success tools:

A Journal

By taking a moment each day to write out things that you want to do and things you have achieved, you will create a sort of diary of your progress. You will also have something to look back on when you get to any sticky points in your journey. You can often glean information from past success as well as advice from past disappointments.

Some people also find that they can use their journals as motivating pieces by writing down things that lift their spirits or affirmations that make them feel inspired. Or you can cut out pictures from magazines or other sources to decorate your journal and to remind you of your eventual destination.

Books

Suffice to say, there are many different books about self help and self improvement on the shelves of every bookstore. When you are trying to work toward success, try to find books that speak to you and your goals. Try out some of the advice that you find to see if someone else’s perspective might be helpful to you. You can also find books about people who are going through the same things you are and look to them for guidance when you’re feeling like you don’t know what to do next.

Magazines

By picking up magazines about the goal you have in mind, you can begin to envision your success more clearly. For example, if you want to travel the world, make sure to subscribe to travel magazines that show you exactly what you need to know about it.

Have a most outstanding day

I agree that it is important to get information to assist us in developing towards our own ideas of success. However, there are so many different resources available today, that sometimes there is way too much to fully absorb. So the ability to absorb what is relevant and filter out what isn’t helpful becomes crucial. Otherwise I might spend all day reading and no time actually doing.

In my view it is better to have a few really great resources that I really use and get a lot of benefit from, than a ton of ones that I might have started reading or plan to one day. The former really assist me in getting where I want to go, whereas the latter just clog up my shelf/computer/life.

Honestly, the only thing I would be lost without would be my computer (to Google more information about something I just learnt) and my to do list to write down the ideas as they come to me.

I’m with you on this one Lisa. Except I need a fast internet connection too. I was recently in a village in Thailand and had to make do with internet via the GSM mobile network. It was so slow as to be almost unusable. I remember the old days when we had dial-up modems at 1200 bps and now we have 20Gbps. Amazing breakthroughs come from the human condition of striving for constant improvement and invention.

But while I’m an internet junkie I still like to buy or borrow good quality books and magazines. There are some places a computer shouldn’t go and you’ll usually find my current book in the smallest room of the house.

I used to read lots of self development books. Then I did it. Then I helped others to do it. And then I wrote books about it. But now I am having too much fun writing comments on this blog to be too concerned about any of the above. Ultimately life is about joy.
