Perth Online Marketing Strategies

by Sean Rasmussen on May 30, 2009

Social Media Marketing StrategiesLast weekend, I was in Sydney teaching some very interesting online strategies to a group of 85 students. They are adult students that want to supplement and ultimately replace their income as internet marketers. This weekend I’m in Perth and we are calling the event: Perth Online Marketing Strategies.

My Favorite Marketing Strategies

As a person that loves personal interaction, I have grown very fond of social media and have integrated it heavily into my online marketing strategies. Social media allows me to touch more people and more importantly, let them get to know me as much as they like. Don’t forget that marketing should (must) be done passively. Imposing yourself on people against their will with spam emails, in-your-face advertising and blatant self promotion, is just not acceptable anymore. That old fashioned and outdated method is called Interruption Marketing. The new acceptable marketing method is: Permission Marketing.

Perth Online Marketing

Perth Online Marketing StrategiesSome of the online marketing concepts I am teaching here in Perth this weekend is about the 2 concepts of Interruption Marketing and Permission Marketing. Here are the differences:

  • Interruption Marketing. This is when an advertising strategy is put in front of your face without your permission. Some examples are ads on TV, Radio, Newspaper, Billboards, Pop-Up Ads etc
  • Permission Marketing. This is simply when you have opted to see the advertising or choose to receive someone’s marketing strategies. Examples are Opt-In Email, Following links through Social Media profiles, etc…

Let me show you the great Permission Marketing Power of Social Media.

Online Marketing Strategies

I live in Bunbury, about 180km south of Perth. When I officially started making a full time living from Online Marketing Strategies, I was based in Karratha, 1600km North of Perth. I was working 12 hours a day, 13 days a fortnight, as a construction electrician and had very little time for anything other than working and being tired after work. At that stage, I wasn’t all that aware of Social Media and the power of it. As a matter of fact, Social Media was only in its infancy at that stage. I have some media profiles that date back to 2005 when most of the New Media sites where in fact “Very New”. Twitter is one great example. Back in my Electrician days, sites like Twitter sounded crazy to me. Little did I know how much these sites where going to catapult my online marketing into a 6 figure monthly income.

What really scares me is that I could have easily ignored these Social Media sites and stay oblivious to the power they have on my Online Marketing Strategies. I find it hard to imagine being back in a J.O.B. The mere thought sends chills down my spine.

Your Online Resources

Online Marketing StrategiesThe good news is that it is no harder for you to do exactly the same. Simply stay in touch on my blogs and learn from me. Of course there is this blog (The Success Communicator) and my other site is about Australian Internet Marketing. The site is SeanSEO.com where I post Online Marketing Strategies twice a day, 7 days a week for your benefit and enjoyment.

I am writing this article in the seminar room at the Perth Online Marketing Strategies event. My first session today was about Search Engine Optimisation. In a moment I will be going back on stage and teach Affiliate Marketing to the attendees so they can go home and build a website and start making money online tonight. Wish them all luck.

Learn Affiliate Marketing

Tomorrow morning, I will be teaching affiliate marketing in my session. I will also cover FaceBook, Twitter and the power of Social Media. I’m looking forward to it especially since my wife and 2 sons will be watching from the back of the room.

Until next time…

Have an outstanding day

Well you sure get around, Perth, Sydney you are busy! Online business marketing is something that all online business owners need more education about. There are plenty out there who know their stuff, already called geeks and commented previously, but for many the idea of search engine techniques for their local online advertising or marketing is something they are not aware of. Your seminars are a great help to many no doubt, as are your blog posts! Thanks.

Hi Sean,
I love your description, “Interruption Marketing v Permission Marketing” I had read you posts with you using the term before but couldn’t grasp the concept of Permission Marketing. Now I understand after reading this blog post. Thanks for taking the time to tell about Twitter and Social Media and how important it is to internet marketing. Helps to fill in the big picture.

Jill.

Hi Sean

Pretty cool that you can just type up a blog post in between your stage presentations at a workshop/seminar!

The terms “interruption marketing” and “permission marketing” have been used a lot lately. I’m guessing some smart person came up with these terms to describe social media marketing in contrast to other traditional forms.

It’s one of those concepts that makes perfect sense and you think, “Why didn’t they think of that before?” It’s not a new concept I know, but it’s definitely the trend now and the way forward with internet marketing.

Hi Sean, since your post I think social media has taken off even more and has become even more important. And with the generation growing up now I think they are not really keen on “Interruption Marketing” and will vote via their computer access :)
