Mindset Mastery 29 – Modern Examples Of Persistence

by Sean Rasmussen on July 31, 2008

Mindset Mastery Ebook By Sean RasmussenYou can find examples of modern persistence that has paid off (as well as, no doubt, failure to persist that didn’t) in many of the world’s most loved authors.

“This same persistence is what often brings us the greatest modern authors. The best-selling authors of our time do not become famous only because of their superior writing talents. They also excel because they persevere until their works are published. They refuse to take ‘no’ for an answer. Nearly every well-known author—Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, John Grisham, and so many more—had their works rejected numerous times before being published and made rich for their efforts. (Rowling’s famed first Harry Potter novel was rejected eight times before being published; since then, the Potter series has made J.K. Rowling the richest writer in history.)

If you stay sharp and pay attention, you’ll see exactly what strange power came to the rescue of the child; you’ll get a glimpse of this power in the next chapter. Somewhere in the book you will key in on an idea that reveals this same irresistible power to you, and then you will be able to use it to your own advantage. The awareness of this power may come to you in the first chapter, or it may flash into your mind later on. It may come in the form of a single idea. Or, it may come as a part of a larger plan or purpose. Again, it may prompt you to look back into your past experiences of failure or defeat, and teach you some lesson you missed before, a lesson that allows you to regain all you lost through defeat.”

When you put your finger on this power, you’ll have an indispensable tool that will guide every decision you make from that day forward, and you’ll see why you’ve not become wealthy before being conscious of this power and the Secret revealed in this book.

I will see you back here Monday and Thursday every week for the continuation of the Mindset Mastery series.

Colonel Sanders too had to perservere. He was knocked back that many times, I believe it was more than a thousand times before someone decided to give his 11 secret herbs and spices recipe a chance. What’s more he was over 60 years of age and had no money! What excuse have the rest of us got? LOL

I vow to follow through, to preserve, to grow and keep growing as I like this feeling of achievement I now have because of my own personal growth, the best thing my friend said to me was,
“You can’t do that you will never succeed you will only waste your money ”
well guess what I have already succeeded because I am still here gaining something each day

Well done Rita – you are definitely a winner!
As we have seen often enough, persistence pays of. You just need to know what you want to achieve, then follow through. Easy ;)

Gotta respect those authors. Having a best-selling book has to be one of the biggest challenges, and achievements, for a writer. They are definitely examples of people who don’t take no for answer. Unshakable persistence.

Hi Sean,

Persistence is such a valuable commodity. The ability to hang in there and keep going, long after others have ‘packed up and gone home’; that’s persistence.

Without the quality of persistence, it will be too easy to give up when things get tough. There will always be obstacles and challenges to overcome and I think persistence is one of the things that will see you through, along with faith.

Persistance is really awesome, and it helps if we are facing in the right direction. How many times do we see a team-member scoring a goal for the other team? Persistance is truly a power.

Persistence, in many cases, is simply hanging on after everyone else has given up!

Persistence is a remarkable trade. Together with a definite purpose and the deep knowledge that you are on the right path makes you nearly unstoppable!

Renee, I have seen people with persistence and “deep knowledge” that they are on the right path come a right cropper. I am glad you said “nearly”. They somehow manage to sabotage themselves.

Hi Renee and Wal,

Sometimes I don’t know if I’m on the right path. I’m just busy persisting. Even I self-sabotage myself along the way, persistence kicks in and I keep going.

It’s just about not giving up; no matter what. So, you can’t ever really fail as long as you keep persisting.

I am glad Joanne Rowling persisted. Harry Potter is jolly good reading. I sometimes wish Stephen King had not persisted. My brother in law insists on giving my wife a Stephen King book as a present each Xmas and we both dislike that genre. At least he is persistent :)

Hey Wal,

Stephen King’s stories are great, it just when they make them into movies that they tend to screw them up. Mind you, having said that, Carrie, Misery, The Dead Zone, and surprisingly, The Stand (tv mini-series) were all really good. Yeah, I’m a bit of a fan! *grin*

Cheers,

Pete

Hi Sean

Oh yes good old persistence. Just look at a young child trying to stand up, to walk, to open the refrigerator door, to stack the blocks, to not want to go to bed, to throwing a tantrum when he doesn’t get his own way! He never gives up.

Once he starts walking he runs, he falls, he does it over and over again until he masters it. Where does that persistence come from? How does he know it’s time to start crawling or climb out of his cot unexpectedly?

Persistence never gives up.

Blessings
Elly

Persistence. It’s so important when needing to get the job done. And for authors? I don’t even want to imagine where we’d be if some of our greatest authors hadn’t persisted.
