Stuck On You – Lionel Ritchie

by Sean Rasmussen on March 22, 2010

Stuck On You – This cover version of the Lionel Ritchie song, was played by the Malolo Island Bula Band when I was in Fiji recently. I always admire and aspire to the relaxed ways of the native Fijians. There is a reason why these guys have some of the lowest cancer rates in the world. Their stress levels are as low as their tempers are cool.

Stuck On You

Sit back, turn up the volume, relax and take a deep breath of fresh island air while Iliesa (vocals, lead guitar), Tivita (drums) and Viliame (rhythm guitar) from the Malolo Island Bula Band play Stuck On You by Lionel Ritchie.

We had a great time on Malolo Island in Fiji. I highly recommend it for a relaxing holiday away from the western lifestyle. We stayed in a “bure” about 50 meters left of the jetty in this photo below.

Until next time: Bula!

Just love the drum….never seen a bottle used as a drum before. They have a lovely melody and rhythm. Just think when I am a hugely successful internet marketer I also can holiday in Fiji and allow my troubles to just float away…..bring it on!

G’day Sean,
More more more, PLEASE. With the exposure they are getting through your efforts, who knows, they may get a worldwide number ONE record. Stranger things have happened in show business !
Good on you for helping them.
Cheers

They sure are great Sean – I was here to read up on the Napleon Hill stuff but got stuck listening to this band – I’d love to hear more if you’re gonna put some more on here – it’s lovely to listen to. Thanks.

I agree – that percussion is really creative :) Works brilliantly. And they have really great voices. I could relax there, no problem.

Oh wow Sean… So cool… What a way to spend an afternoon… I would have had a pina colada, for sure. Well, maybe a few hey….

That’s great that you obviously got to chat to the guys. Good on you for getting their names and acknowledging them here. Was that you I could hear in the background on the triangles?

Lina,
That triangle would be only slightly amplified of course. I heard they had 28 trucks of gear for their Brisbane gig, and could be heard 15 Km away. How many watts must the PA system be ????????
Good idea to buy Sean earplugs and earmuffs if he gets the gig.

Sean back in April of 2008 Leanne and i went to Fiji for a holiday it was fantastic we had a lot of fun. the highlight of the trip was a 5 night cruise on the ship where we visited all the islands. In the evening we would sit around and listen to the island folk sing and display there culture. it was great i would it again tomorrow.

Hi Sean,

I love the song. These guys have such a relaxed way about them. It’s contagious. It looks so beautiful there. I think I’d feel like I’d died and gone to heaven.

I could really do with a week of just relaxing on the beach. :)

Exactly what we did, Jazz! The boys brought their DS’s just in case they got too relaxed :D

What a great band , they surely would have set the scene for a layback holiday I bet. One thing I noticed is all the people who were sitting in the front seats have left, or are they just getting more drinks !
I suppose also when you have a successful internet business, you can fly around the world visiting beach huts & listening to Fijian bands playing Stuck On You-Lionel Ritchie.

Lina isn’t the only one inspired by this. Aside from the cool tunes, it makes me wish for a simpler life away from the business that pervades modern society.

These guys have got it going on! It is easy to desire this, but hopefully I can do what is necessary to make it happen. Perhaps a fellow called Napoleon Hill can help me out…

Can you imagine having your own personal band surrounding you while sitting under a low hanging palm tree that’s on a 45 degree angle, overshadowing, ever so slightly the comfortable banana chair, sipping on a fruit cocktail. Sweet sounds of Lional Ritchie’s Stuck on You…. and you looking out towards the beautiful blue sea that stretches on forever…

Stuck on you… got this feeling down deep in my soul that I just can’t lose – guess, I’m on my way. This song on my iTunes playlist is under “Heart” – cause as you can imagine the song does have a lot heart. Depends what kind of mood I am in – this song can make me cry. Most of the songs on my iTunes have deep meaning for me. I even have a long list of inspirational songs. Since finding (or it found me) Hope 103.2 it has changed me over time & introduced me to some fantastic inspiring music. And it’s such a positive radio station to listen to.

Bula! Love Fiji – I haven’t been back for a while but I always dreamed that someday I could escape the rat race and go and hang out in a little villiage somewhere in Fiji – they have such a simple life with so much beauty and serenity. I have since changed my mind – I am definately going to settle in Thailand but that is for another blog comment.

a great example of how dreams may change but I have to wonder, will you regret not visiting Fiji when you’ve reached your twilight years?

I would still go for a visit if I were you. Maybe not settle there but I think you’ll always wonder what it was like in person where that was a dream of yours once.
