Carpe Diem – “Seize The Day“. When is the right time to build your mindset and motivational powers? Hey! I’m making it sound like a super natural ability of a Marvel Comics Super Hero… but then again, isn’t it a bit of a super ability to have? Everyone wants it, right? Yet the ones who (say they) don’t need the mindset are the ones that already have it. So that’s why they are already so successful in life, across the board, aren’t they! Pardon the the sarcasm
When to start building your super abilities
NOW! When is ”Now” going to be the right time to take action? Tomorrow? Well, sorry to break the news to you. Tomorrow is not “now”. There is only one “now” and that is the present. Tomorrow never comes. Tomorrow will always be “now” when you get there. What you put off untill tomorrow is a sure-fire way of telling your sub-conscious mind: “I Have No Intention Of Doing It At All“. The only time to start is now.
Mindset building moments
We dont’ find a lot of spare time in our busy lifestyles. It seems that time is speeding up and there is less time in every day that passes. I could spinn off on a totally different tangent about time, but I wont (not this time).
So how do we fit it in? First of all, we have to have a burning desire to make it happen. Here’s what I do:
I fit it in when I am doing something out over the ordinary. In about 2 weeks, I’m driving a 4,600km roundtrip with my 2 sons to visit our family in South Australia. That’s approximately 46 hours of driving + breaks. What a great opportunity to invest some time in myself, whilst driving! There is some serious listening time I can utilize.
When is “Now” going to be the right time?
Now is the right time. Here’s what I’ll be doing on my 46 hour roundtrip:
- Learning basic French. It’s something I’ve meant to do for many years and have never started. Maybe I should have read my own article about five minutes to unlock your motivation. This time, the kids and I will be armed with audio CD’s with French Lessons.
- Supporting my kids dreams. A portable keyboard with speakers, will come along for the journey. My oldest son wants to be a concert pianist (beats being a traindriver, right?). There will be plenty of practice opportunity during the drive. I’ll also ensure I listen in at all times. After all, I want to support other’s dreams and goals.
- Listening to a mindset program. Last year I listened to The Secret with Rhonda Byrne and a Public Speaking Course with Jamie McIntyre. I’ve got no idea which one to do this year. Any suggestions are welcome in the comments section below. Maybe Tony Robbins? It does however need to be kid friendly
OK. That’s what I’m up to. Needless to say, I have no excuse now. You can hold me accountable for taking action towards some of my dreams. Some of those dreams I have never actioned before! Isn’t it funny how we put things off and suddenly a lot of years have passed by?
One year ago, diarised
I posted these 2 posts in my Bullhunters Guide Blog (my first blog) almost one year ago. This will give you an idea what was going through my mind 11-12 months ago, setting out on the same trip to visit my mum and brother. Here are the links to the 2 posts:
Enjoy! I had a good laugh and recognise how much I was on the right track. I also now realise how much further down the path I’ve come in one year. It’s a fun journey of growth and self development.
Have a most outstanding day

Bonjour!
I think its fabulous that you have decided to learn French. Languages stretch our mind, and expand our imagination and remind us that we each have potential to go much further than we already do. Each time we uncover a new source of motivation in our lives, this clue brings us a step closer to what we truly want. The process of getting-to-know ourselves requires effort, but the rewards can also be priceless.
A friend of mine read your book. It transformed his thinking process and his lifeview. Sharing personal life stories that contain lessons and uplifting experience is one of the most inspirational things a person can do.
It also makes coming to Canada that much easier and more relevant for you. Not only can you speak to me in English you can have a French seminar, too! Come to New Brunswick!

Thanks Liara. I enjoy languages and having the ability to communicate with other people is priceless. Not understanding someone is frustrating. Many disputes and wars would be avoided if we all spoke the same tongue or at least gave each other the respect of learning each others languages.
One of the things a person can learn about language is you don’t necessarily need to know particular words to communicate effectively. For instance, Italian may be considered very much a language of gestures. Other languages are also very expressive as demonstrated by facila expressions, body movement and also, intense emotions. Since you are interested in French, you may already know that this language contains more adjectives than a great many other languages precisely because it is so fundamentally expressive and stems from the heart. Writers, such as Victor Hugo, are known for long sentences that employ many adjectives.
Hi Sean,
I work on improving my mindset in small chunks of time. I’m never upset when I miss the train and it’s ten minutes until the next one comes. It just gives me more time to read my book. My MP3 player lets me listen to some of my favorite downloaded mental mastery books as I go for a walk.
The more I look for opportunities to improve my mindset; the more I find. I used to feel upset when someone was late keeping their appointment with me because I felt that they didn’t value my time. Now I love it because I’m always prepared and I make the best use of this free time.
Bonjour monsouir Rasmussen, I hope you really did learn the basic parle fancais vous desire!!
I take your point about now is now and that’s when to start. I heard a little poem which I like which goes something like this:
Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow’s a mystery,
All we have is now and that’s why it’s called the present.
Make the most of your gift of life.
We all need to be mindful of our past without living in it. We all need to have an eye on the future because that is where our goals for success lie. But all we really have is the right now. We never know when our number will come up and we shuffle off into another time and space continuum (aka Heaven (or hell)).
I love Jazz’s post as it sums up my current mindset as well.
I definitely like to use time out of daily life productively as life gets busy. Whether it is while travelling/commuting or on holidays, I’ll always have a book with me or some sort of audio program. It means I look forward to and enjoy the journey, rather than just the destination.
That is unless my ipod goes flat and there is no light to read by. But even I can always have a nap. I also like the idea of having every 4th week off – sounds like a great goal to aim for.

If tomorrow we totally achieve mindset mastery, and we have it as you say when tomorrow becomes “now”, then there never was a time that we didn’t have it, right?

It took guts as you made that decision as you were driving across the Nulabor – I guess it was a case of “Deal or No Deal” Geez, that much money in only a few days – I am impressed.
You did it… BURNING desire, eh? If the desire is so strong you have no choice but to do it now. How does one phrase their desire to make it a burning desire – as a statement?

Wow Sean
Impressed. I can’t imagine driving that far. Back home driving for a hour without seeing a town is a big deal. Getting use to the vast distances here. So much time to reflect, listen to motivation, get soothed (by Beethoven in my case) and suck it all in.
I believe learning a foreign language is a great skill to have, as language is the soul of any culture. Gives us a bit of French

I think “now” is the right time when it becomes too painful to not do it now. By that I specifically mean that the idea of staying where you are for even one more second will drive you to making a change NOW. Like having your hand on a hot-plate.

Hello Sean,
Great to hear that you were going to be spending time with family, and time on your dreams. I loved learning French in highschool but hardly remember any of the words!! Thats a long way to drive to be with family, but like you said at least you get plenty of time to listen to tapes. “Now” is my time. For the first time I am really chasing my dreams and passions. Life is one big journey, and the more I learn along the way, the more I discover.
Cheers
Lisa

Multi tasking is an important skill but you can also be taking on too many tasks at once. When you’re driving, for example, don’t be focused on listening to an educational cd and talking to your kids – we all need you to watch the road! Too many children were forgotten in a car because the parent was in a rush, accomplishing a lot but missing out on one very important element.
There’s a time and place for multi tasking. Me? I enjoy nursing my son as it gives us alone time and me a chance to catch up on my reading. My mind is always going full force, which is why I’m having so much trouble sleeping lately, with so many ideas but when I get up in the morning I’m too exhausted to take action and get them off my to do list. Multi tasking in your sleep is definitely not a good thing :0

I like what you say in this post:
“What you put off until tomorrow is a sure-fire way of telling your sub-conscious mind: “I Have No Intention Of Doing It At All“. ”
And I fully agree. I have to watch my language and talk and think about what I have and what I am doing, not what I will – one day. Because that day never comes …

That is so true Renee – procrastination is just another way of saying I won’t be doing that really.
Gee, how often have I said that – nearly did it with this Learn and Earn comp – and then when in it – nearly did it with the commenting, but I am glad I am keeping up with comments as I find that I am being led to some really good information – for a few dollars more indeed!
Hi Renee,
This is so true. If you make a decision to do something, the most effective way of cementing that decision is to take immediate action. It all comes down to taking action.
Also, the words you use are so powerful. You need to frame everything in terms of already being, doing and having what you want. This is the best way to manifest it into your life.
Jazz Salinger´s last blog ..Finding Your Passion
Hi Sean
It is true that the only moment is now. Today was yesterdays tomorrow. Where did it go so fast? Why do we put things off today? now? because most people want the goodies that change will bring but they don’t like change. Change means getting out of your comfort zone. Even if the comfort zone is uncomfortable, change can be scary because it is the ‘unknown zone’.
Some people will go in and out of the same detrimental relationship several times until they realise it is never going to work. Usually by the umpteenth time, they are forced into change when their ‘ex’ finally meets someone else or packs up and leaves. When they feel they have had ‘no choice’ but to change, they may possibly lament their hard luck story until the end of their lives.
Some people will create their changes when they realise they are not happy with the way things are in their lives. They know it is going to feel uncomfortable at times and they will feel tested and sometimes out of their depth swimming in new oceans with new fish. These courageous people write their goals down and start taking action on them as they value life and want to make the most out of it.
My greatest motivation for change came when I imagined myself at the end of my life and wrote my Epitaph about how I lived my life, what I did, achieved, gained etc. That is when all the action for change began.
Hi Sean,
I believe that any time is the right time to get started & the sooner the better! It’s all to easy to put things to the side or think “Yeah I’ll get round to it” but excuses & procrastination will not get anyone very far : )
