Mindset Mastery 83 – Frightening And Beautiful

by Sean Rasmussen on February 13, 2009

Mindset Mastery eBookThe power of autosuggestion is all at once both frightening and powerful. Used in productive ways, autosuggestion can be a beautiful and fulfilling pathway to success; used otherwise, it can be a path that leads to destruction.

Help Or Harm?

The pages of medical history are laden with illustrations of cases of “suggestive suicide.” A person can commit suicide through negative suggestion just as effectively as by any other means of suicide. In a Midwestern city, there once lived a man named Joseph Grant; Grant, a bank official, “borrowed” a large sum of the bank’s money, without the consent of the directors. He lost the money gambling. One afternoon, the Bank Examiner came and began auditing the accounts. Grant left the bank and took a room in a local hotel; when they found him three days later, he was lying in bed, wailing and moaning, repeating over and over, “My God, this will kill me! I cannot stand the disgrace.” Before long, he was dead. The doctors pronounced the case one of “mental suicide.”

The Power Of Nature

Like many other natural forces we use to our advantage everyday, the law of auto-suggestion can help just as easily as it can harm. Think of the law of auto-suggestion like electricity–electricity can power industry and technology and render useful service if used constructively; or it can snuff out a life in a snap if used improperly. When used correctly, the law of auto-suggestion can lead you to peace and prosperity; used improperly, auto-suggestion can lead you into misery, failure, and even death, depending on your degree of understanding and your application of it.

How You Connect Matters

If you fill your mind with fear, doubt, and disbelief in your ability to connect with and use the forces of Infinite Intelligence, the law of auto-suggestion will take that spirit of disbelief and use it as a pattern which your subconscious mind will translate into its physical equivalent. This statement is as true as the statement that two plus two equals four!

Your Decision To Make

Whether you use the power of nature to your benefit or disadvantage is all up to you. This is a simple enough strategy to employ, but so many of us employ it in the wrong ways without even thinking about it. You have the benefit of knowledge, and so the benefit of choice. Make the most of your mindset by making the most of the thoughts and feelings you propagate!

Hi Sean,

It can be a bit scary when you think about what the mind can do.

Most of us go through life without ever realizing the full power of our thoughts. I think if the power of auto-suggestion was applied the right way everyone can enjoy peace of mind.

Once it is a habit to think positive and focus on what you want it is really easy, as your automated subconscious decision is conform with the one you want to make anyway. For the good stuff.

Hard is the beginning, when we have to get rid of our old habits and all the “truth” that we have stored over the years. That things are impossible, that we have to stop dreaming, that we can’t do that anyway etc.

So, we have to form the habit of thinking positive, having self confidence (see the Self-Confidence Formula of Napoleon Hill) and create a positive choice every time.

I know the truth of this subject – one of my pet ‘hobby-horses’ when working in hospital theatres was the conversations that went on over the top of ‘unconscious’ patients in operating theatres. To their credit, a great many places are now aware of the impact this has, and take various measures to filter the impacts.
We can learn from this – and yes, there is great responsibility with our auto-suggestions,
I like to heed the ’speak impeccable words’. It helps, and the better we get, the better ‘it’ gets.

Hi Jo,

I just wanted to say thank-you for doing this for your patients. I believe that patients being operated on and those in a coma can actually hear and understand what is going on.

I think if you speak to these patients and tell them they are going to be just fine; they will be. I really think they will heal better. I wonder if there has been a study done on this?

This post about the power of autosuggestion reminds me of various men around the world who, each Easter, develop stigmata, involuntary bleeding on hands and feet to match what the Bible says happened to Jesus on the cross.

Hi Sean,
This is a simple enough strategy once you start reading the positive mindset books and articles. What you have to do is re enforce that by autosuggestion each day, have notes where you can see them first thing in the morning and last thing at night. You have to change your mindset and believe in yourself.

Hi Rita,

I agree. We just need to make some small adjustments in our routine each day and start making time to think positive, visualise and start applying the law of auto suggestion.

We will be rewarded greatly in our lives for our efforts
