Napoleon Hill does not come directly out and name the secret to wealth creation in his book, and here he tells us why…
“The secret to which I refer has been mentioned no fewer than a hundred times, throughout this book. It has not been directly named, for it seems to work more successfully when it is merely uncovered and left in sight, where those who are ready, and searching for it, may pick it up. That is why Andrew Carnegie tossed it to me so quietly, without giving me its specific name.
“If you are ready to put it to use, you will recognize this secret at least once in every chapter. I wish I might feel privileged to tell you how you will know if you are ready, but that would deprive you of much of the benefit you will receive when you make the discovery in your own way.”
Your Path To The Secret
In fact, it might be best that Napoleon Hill does not put a name to this secret, because it might be called by many names by people from different cultures and backgrounds; it’s all semantics anyway, and if you grasp Hill’s point you’ll surely understand as well that the importance is more in understanding this secret thing and learning to apply it effectively in your own way, than in copying the path of another to the letter. Everyone’s path to successful wealth creation will be different; even in investing, no two paths are ever exactly the same. The key for educators of wealth creation like myself and Jamie McIntyre is to give students, such as yourself, the tools – tools that you can use for a lifetime of wealth creation, not a ‘get-rich-quick’ flash in the pan kind of windfall that won’t support you your whole life long.
I will see you back here Monday and Thursday every week for the continuation of the Mindset Mastery series.

Yes, and the yearning desire to improve oneself need not lie in any secret but in the deep layers of the sub conscious, but to do this one must have faith that they have the ability to grow.
Do not look up to other’s you are inspired by, do not look down at those you think should need help, but look ahead, as everywhere around you, is indeed you anyway. Tap into it!
Anything is easier when you have the rite tools, & you still need to use them not just aquire them to gather dust or hang on the wall to look neat. The arsenal of tools & the instructions for their use is brilliantly explained for anyone willing to use them by MINDSET MASTERY. Thankyou Sean for your comitment & teaching of others willing.

Hi Sean,
I look forward to learning the tools that will allow me to create wealth for myself and my family. I think regardless of the path you choose to create wealth, the lessons remain the same. I’m looking forward to applying the success principles.
I do think that when the student is ready the master appears. So, if we know the secret without needing Napoleon or you to name it directly, we are ready. I am ready.
Aaaahhhh! I want to know what it is! What is the secret that can be recognized in every chapter?
I’m with Jazz, I’m ready………
Do I need to read the book 7 times?
I suppose after 20 years of study, he didn’t want to just hand it over, now did he…

When you work it out for yourself – you KNOW. It is then a part of you, and with you till you pass.

I agree. Just reading it and then maybe thinking “ah, that’s easy, I can do that” but never doing it is less helpful than having to think a little bit yourself and be actively involved. And create your own path with this tool. As Sean says rightly, every one of us is different and every way to success will be different. But we will all benefit from using the best available tools.

As I read the book I notice that Napoleon talks about using the secret for personal benefit, not just amassing wealth, “Others have used it successfully in creating harmony in their homes”. I have achieved extraordinary success in my field of expertise. Did I use the 13 principles? As I look through them, yes, in retrospect I did. I did use them even tho at the time I was not using them out of the book.
I like the fact that Napoleon Hill gives practical guidance but leaves a bit of mystery in there. It is one thing to be told something, but it is another to learn it oneself.
When I read the first couple of chapters of Think and Grow Rich, I almost felt a little light go on in my head. I don’t know whether or not what I was thinking is the secret to wealth that Napoleon alludes to – there is so much to learn in this book. With every additional chapter I read there is something else which grabs me. The more I read, the more I am intrigued. I can tell that this book is a keeper.

I love that Hill keeps The Secret a secret. It’s certainly telling of what type of man he is – knowing that if you can’t appreciate his book for what it teaches maybe you’re not ready to be taught or to learn.
Can’t wait to read it from cover to cover to find out if I’m ready.

Hi Sean,
Over the past couple of days I thought the secret ingredient was persistence. That is what the little girl had in “The Fifty Cent Lesson” wasn’t it..or what strange power came to the rescue of the young girl that caused her to be given the money she wanted?
So are you telling me now that it’s not persistence? Well then what is it?

There is another saying (or more accurately, a 3 point step) that I vaguely remember coming across, but can’t remember, where the first two points are given, but not the third. (I think it was something along the lines of “The three steps to success are 1) Don’t give too much aways, 2) Refer to Step 1!”) With this, I keep wondering if the third step, or the secret, doesn’t exist as such, but the ‘mystery’ of what it is and the fact that people are focused and looking for it is the ‘hidden secret’. That it could be something along the lines of “Keep an eye out for what is not obvious!”
Just a thought!
Cheers,
Pete

I am much entranced by this book. I too felt a light go on however briefly it flickered. Am I right? Did I catch it? Will I see every reference to it in the book?
Hi Sean
There is a story about a man who points to the moon while saying to his dog “look at the moon, look at the moon” but the dog only looks at the hand that is pointing and misses the moon entirely.
Napoleon Hill is pointing to the book, don’t look at his hand. The parody is that the secret will be revealed when we read the book and put the information into action. Then we will discover the power of the written word come to life. The results of which will cause a transformation.
The Alchemist’s magic is the whole process beginning with the “desire” to change one’s situation to taking action as prescribed by Mr Hill and then getting the appropriate results.
See page 42 in chapter 2 the 6 practical steps. It’s a fundamental first step!
Blessings
Elly
I have to admit, it would be tempting to have “the secret to wealth” revealed on a silver platter.
But would it work? Would we actually use it or not really trust it because it sounds too easy or too complicated?
From a learning perspective he does it absolutely right to keep us on our toes and searching for it on every page. This way we pay the attention necessary to really engrave it into our brain.

Hi Renee,
I think if the secret to wealth was too easily given to us we wouldn’t give it the appropriate amount of respect. I think that success takes a lot of work.
So, by making us search for the secret, we’re showing our willingness to work hard and be persistent. We will be rewarded with the information when we’re ready to receive it.
