I agree with you. There is value in every experience, even the ones we don’t enjoy. Sometimes we learn what we do want by doing what we don’t want.

The bottom line is though, we need to recognise when we need a change. If we are unhappy and unfulfilled, then it’s definitely time to make a change.

Although you can learn to like something you will excel at something much faster if you already like it. I just wish there were as many “distance career” opportunities now as there were distance education courses.

I, too, see Sean as a wise teacher and love the lessons I’m learning both from him and all of his students. This may just be the best public school system out there today.

I wonder how many websites there will be 30 years from now dedicated to the teachings of Sean.

“Forget about what you “should” do”… certainly easier typed than done. In a country that values degrees and “paper” more than knowledge I find it too difficult to decide what to spend my money on. Courses that I would love to do, and so would excel at, are not valued in my province as an industry I would find a job in. I work alongside so many people how are working at a mediocre job outside of their field of education simply to pay off their student loans. Salaries are higher in entry level jobs than careers that require the education people pay for. It’s certainly a mixed up world I live in.

As long as you learn something and enjoy that I think no training is waisted. It just might take you a little bit longer to get where you wanted.
But if you study something just because someone told you that would be good for you and you hate the whole thing and have to drag yourself there every day and don’t see the point – then it is time to change something drastically.

But if you spend years and years and also worked in that field I don’t think you thought it is totally wrong for you. And if that is the case you learned something that you will carry with you into your next challenge.
And that’s an additional great skill you will probably be happy to have.
