Hi Elly,

This is great advice. Negative thoughts are a problem. I find it easier to talk back to them and turn them into positives each and every time they show up. I find this makes them lessen in intensity.

I like your point about valuing the present time. The past will drag you back into it if you'll let it. You have to make a conscious effort to always be in the present moment.

No truer words ever spoken! "we can be Masters of failure just easily as we can be Masters of success—it’s all in how we harness that ability, and the direction we point our thoughts in."

We are the ones responsible for our lives and the path it takes

Captains of Souls and Masters of Fate... Those are two really important sounding titles. Think about this... You, yes, YOU are a MASTER of FATE. Fate and destiny are two of the most important aspects of our lives. The words are steeped in mystery and fraught with drama. These aspects are said to be in control of our lives and are completely neutral, neither for us or against us. And now we are told that WE are the ones in control. That's powerful. And it's all in your mindset.

Hmm, I think this is working into a blog post, so I'm going to stop here. :D I'll post a link when I get it posted. :D

It was pointed out to me once , that the human mind cannot hold two consecutive thoughts but only oscillate between them, so by thinking negative thoughts we can easily spiral down into depression , and therefore the opposite must be true that by thinking positive thoughts we can lift ourselves above negativity and all that baggage that goes with it .

Hi Sean

It is absolutely true that we have no control over thoughts. Just try to stop them pouring in on a daily basis and see if you can. If you were in control of your thoughts, why would you ever have a negative one?.

It is easy to read and discard this but if you truly look within and do some investigation, you will see that what I say is true and it could be a huge liberating discovery as you will no longer feel guilty or berate yourself for all the crazy thoughts you have.

Now here is the remedy (I wasn't going to leave you with a cart load of thoughts to try and dump).Just be vigilant of your thoughts and don't chase those negative ones. It's what you do with those thoughts that will give you control.

We need to stop lamenting about the past and fearing the future. When thoughts like that come up, chuck them. Like you said in this post Sean "it’s all in how we harness that ability, and the direction we point our thoughts in". We can choose to point the negative ones towards and into the rubbish bin and point the positives into action - send them on to work for you, in which ever way possible (with you taking action as well)!

To be mindful of thought we must be focusing on the present, yes set our goals and dreams, do our visualisations, and then be vigilant just like the title of one of my favourite books "You Can't Afford The Luxury Of A Negative Thought". Weed out those nasties fast.

Blessings
