This Mindset Mastery series installment marks the beginning of the third chapter of the revised edition of Think and Grow Rich. In this chapter, Napoleon Hill explores to the topic of faith—visualizing faith, and believing in the possibility of attaining your desires. We start the chapter with a word from Hill on what faith is.
What Is Faith?
Faith is the head chemist of the mind. When faith merges with thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence, such as in the case of prayer, visualization, or meditation.
The Most Powerful Of Emotions
The emotions of faith, love, and sex are the most powerful of all the major positive emotions. When the three are merged, they have the effect of “coloring” the vibration of thought in such a way that it reaches the subconscious mind instantly; in the subconscious it is changed into its spiritual equivalent, the only form that induces a response from Infinite Intelligence.
Spirituality Aside
You do not need to be a religious person to believe this, either; even the most atheistic of people can admit that there is some part of life which, for lack of better terms and understanding, is best described as the ’spirit’ of living. Love and faith are psychic; related to the spiritual side of man. Sex is purely biological, and related only to the physical. The mixing, or blending, of these three emotions has the effect of opening a direct line of communication between the finite, thinking mind of man, and Infinite Intelligence.
Personal Faith
Faith is so often linked to religion that we tend to think of them as one and them same; but they are not. Faith is a personal belief system defined as a,
“…confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing”
What we can take away from this is that having faith in your own success is not dependent upon a belief in a God or religion. Having the faith to attaint your desires is simply that. It is a matter of confidence to complement all other aspects of your life for ultimate success.

Great post! You are so right! Most people think that faith is the same as religion. You can have faith in self, and you should before anything else, regardless of your religion, or lack thereof. This is the first article I have seen from this blog, but I will definitely be following from now on!

This is a great post! This holds so much truth! People always think when you say “faith”, you are talking about “religion” Fact of the matter is, the best “faith” you can have is faith in yourself! Spirituality is the driving force behind human existance. It is the spirit of Infinite Intelligence or God that gives us the energy to connect with ourselves and with others, for surely the body without a spirit is nothing. No communication of a positive and successful outcome can exist between people without the connection of the spirits. There is no doubt everyone has an understanding of the strong bond of intimacy between soul mates -when two spirits collide and unite to compliment each other throughout their lives – without such intense intimacy, this connection can also exist on a general level between ourselves and others in a spirit of love, harmony and understanding en masse to create trust and faith between all people of all nations of the world. How successful would this make us?
Hmm – something to think about.
If just as many people had faith in themselves as there are those who have faith in religion, we would be a much more satisfied, successful and content bunch of people. IMHO.

Hi Sean,
I use the power of visualization often and I try to find the equivalent of what I want in reality. For example, if it’s a new car I want, I visit car shows and car yards to touch and sit in the cars I want to drive. I keep pictures of this car where I can see it every day. These actions help strengthen my faith that one day soon, I will drive this car.
I know the more I strengthen my belief that I will achieve my goals; the closer I get to actually having them. At this point, it takes me some time to develop the belief and the faith that I can really achieve my goals. Hopefully in time I will get better at this.
I think you first need faith in yourself before you can have real faith in something else. Unfortunately we still bring up our kids and tell them about faith mainly in context to something abstract like religion, instead of teaching and encouraging them to have faith in themselves.
It’s great that today we have endless options to learn about these important basics that we should have learned long ago.

Just wondering whether anyone has anything to say about faith and sex being emotions. I can understand that love is. But if faith means to have belief, how does one describe that as a “feeling”? And if sex is an act, how does one describe that a feeling?
