Mindset Mastery 57 – Exemplary Dreamers

by Sean Rasmussen on November 14, 2008

Mindset Mastery eBookAs if Copernicus and Columbus were not proof enough, we have more examples of dreamers who rose above cynicism to bring the world great things and enjoy great success in life.

Dreamers Become The World’s Best Doers

Henry Ford, poor and uneducated, dreamed of a horseless carriage, went to work with whatever tools he had, without waiting for opportunity to turn in his favor, and now evidence of his dream is everywhere on earth. He set more wheels turning than any man who ever lived, because he was not afraid to back his dreams.

Thomas Edison dreamed of a lamp that would run on electricity, began where he stood to put his dream into action, and despite more than ten thousand failures, he stood by that dream until he made it a physical reality. Practical dreamers do not quit!

The Wright brothers dreamed of a machine that would fly through the air. Now the evidence of their sound belief and success crosses the world over countless times every day.

Marconi, father of the modern radio which has burgeoned in so many useful and entertaining ways, dreamed of a system for harnessing the intangible forces in the atmosphere. Evidence that he did not dream in vain can be found in every radio, television, and wireless device. Moreover, Marconi’s dream brought the smallest shack and the largest mansion side by side. It made the people of every nation on earth back-door neighbors. It gave the leaders of every nation an immediate means for reaching out to their citizens.

It may interest you to know that Marconi’s “friends” had him taken into custody and examined in a psychiatric hospital when he announced to them that he had discovered a principle that he could use to send messages through the air, without the aid of wires, or other direct physical means of communication. Luckily for us, today’s dreamers fare much better.

What Do You Have To Lose?

You have nothing to lose, everything to gain. Your fate will not be so severe as being committed for insanity simply because you dare to dream a better life. The worst that could happen is not so bad indeed, and should certainly not be the impediment to your success.

Hey Sean,

I believe having a dream is the key to success! 12 months ago I did a powerful exercise and wrote down the top 100 things that I wanted to experience in my life time. Each day I visualise those things as if I have already achieved them and feel the emotion. I have been able to tick many of those things off my list this year and have had the most amazing 12 months of my entire life! If we combine our dreams with visualisation and emotion then it creates an incredible attraction toward our goals.

Cheers, Brad :o )

In your book the Secret Law of Attraction, it’s mentioned in the pages 44 – 46 about acting in a certain way, I can’t quite grasp what is trying to be suggested, could you enlighten me as I’m getting frustated ‘cos I don’t know what to do.

Acting in a “Certain Way”

Let’s see if I can simplify it:

Act like you think.
Act as if you already have what you manifest for yourself.
Act like you are living the way you would if you had already succeeded in reaching your dreams.
Act like you are already there: Success is now.

Dreams = Thoughts = Actions = Reality

Hi Sean,

I have dreams on a much smaller scale than Ford and Co. Right now, my current dreams will only affect my family and my friends. Maybe in time, when I achieved my current dreams of improving the lives of my friends and family will I be able to dream on a larger scale where I can improve the lives of many.

I think everyone has a dream but not everyone is willing to go after them. I use my dreams of a better life for the people who are close to me to motivate me to do better.

Ford dreamed of the horsless carriage? Sorry, I am to German to let that go :) That was already “done” a few years before Ford did it, by Mr. and Mrs. Benz in Germany – no offense :)

That doesn’t make Ford’s dream any less daring and his achievement not smaller. It’s fascinating how big some people can dream. I have to un-learn my limiting beliefs. But I am on my way :)

What do you have to lose by dreaming?

Really, what do you have to lose? If it’s so easy and risk-free, why not dream? Let’s be honest here.

Fear of disappointment is a big one. The fear of believing that something could be so good, then having it ripped away. Fear of someone saying, “I told you so” and being ridiculed. Fear of actually feeling something. Feeling the courage, hurt, joy, worthiness to dream.

The truth is, there is some risk involved in dreaming. Dreaming doesn’t make it all come true. Of course, there’s helluva lot more to it than that. But dreaming is where you start. It’s how you get ideas, imagine, plant the seed of desire.

If you’re not willing to do that, then go home.

Wealth creation is not for you.
