Mindset Mastery 134 – Determined Financing

Continuing on from the last Mindset Mastery post, we learn more about how Dr. Gunsaulus turned an idea into an institution. You’ll recall when we left Dr. Frank Gunsaulus he was trying to raise one million dollars to begin an innovative institution of learning, one that he saw as a solution to the educational difficulties of the day.

How Do You Get A Million Dollars?

He knew all these great truths, yet he did not know where, or how, to lay his hands on a million dollars. The natural reaction would have been to give up and quit, by saying, “Ah well, my idea is a good one, but I cannot do anything with it, because I never can procure the necessary million dollars.” That is exactly what the majority of people would have said, but it is not what Dr. Gunsaulus said. What he said, and what he did, are so important that rather than paraphrase the Doctor, the author chose instead to quote him here…

Ways And Means

“One Saturday afternoon I sat in my room thinking of ways and means of raising the money to carry out my plans. For nearly two years, I had been thinking, but I had done nothing but think!

“The time had come for action!

“I made up my mind, then and there, that I would get the necessary million dollars within a week. How? I was not concerned about that. The main thing of importance was the decision to get the money within a specified time, and I want to tell you that the moment I reached a definite decision to get the money within a specified time, a strange feeling of assurance came over me, such as I had never before experienced. Something inside me seemed to say, ‘Why didn’t you reach that decision a long time ago? The money was waiting for you all the time!’

Force Of Action

“Things began to happen in a hurry. I called the newspapers and announced I would preach a sermon the following morning, entitled, ‘What I would do if I had a Million Dollars.’

“I went to work on the sermon immediately, but I must tell you, frankly, the task was not difficult, because I had been preparing that sermon for almost two years. The spirit back of it was a part of me!

“Long before midnight I had finished writing the sermon. I went to bed and slept with a feeling of confidence, for I could see myself already in possession of the million dollars.

Clarity Of Vision

This is an interesting point where we find Dr. Gunsaulus. How many times have you yourself been at or near this point? Or, perhaps if you are one of the lucky few, you’ve reached this point and made it beyond to great success and wealth.

I think we can all identify with Gunsaulus at least in part. We all have had great ideas simmering in our minds. It’s whether or not you have acted upon it that sets you apart and makes the difference.

We’re not finished yet with Gunsaulus and his story. Do come back, particularly if you are one on the brink, and find out how to tips the scales.

  1. G’day Sean,
Thanks for yesterday – I really enjoyed it.

I feel like the last sentence was written for me, particularly the ” ON THE BRINK ” part. Getting closer to tipping the scales thanks to you, Simon, and the Moderators.

Many Blessings to all of you

  2. Sean, OMG! you can’t leave us stranded! when is the next part of the story??
Thank you so much for sharing I feel like I’m at that point at the moment and its amazing to think its just a decision and then I decide and wow things start to change.

    Awesome thanks for sharing.

  3. Hi Sean, an inspiring story right from the horse mouth. He finally made a decision to do something to get the million dollars to finance his dream of a school of inspirational earning. He had a vision and followed it through.

  4. I bet he was praying to God, asking for the million dollar lotto win. And God replied, “Well, I would have given it to you, but you didn’t buy the ticket!” An oldie, but a goodie.

    Hi Sean,

So, once Dr Gunsaulus could actually see himself in possession of the million dollars, the idea came to him on how he should go about actually getting the money.

It’s interesting to note that he didn’t suffer from lack of self confidence, fear, doubt or worry. He was completely confident that he would have the money.

  6. That is pure unwavering faith. Dr Gunsaulus put it out and let the universe provide. He knew like he knew like he knew that the million dollars was on its way, nothing was stopping him now.

It really works – putting your mind towards a goal with a very strong passion (with a clarity of vision) – it worked for us, its working for us every day. Lately I have been achieving so many goals its spooky. Imagine what we all could achieve if we had the total confident that Dr Gunsaulus had? Actually we should all be that clear with a vision and before we know it we are successful.

Another great lesson learnt thanks Sean 🙂

    • Hi Lisa,

This is so true. Dr Gunsaulus did have absolute faith and he never doubted it for a minute. The million dollars was already in his pocket. I’m still working on this level of faith in myself to create my own dreams.

I believe I will be successful and I see myself getting my desires. But, just every now and again, there’s that little niggle of doubt. So, I still have some work to do.

  8. For the past two years I’ve been thinking and thinking I’ve been taking the action necessary to highlight my two* books but you ain’t seen nothing yet as they say.

In my year off to be with my son I’ve had the opportunity to finally write the emails I’ve been meaning to, send out copies of the book and look for new and original ideas that I now have the time to follow through on. Although this competition has taken me away from that in the past few weeks it’s almost over and I have a new found determination and persistence inside of me that I knew was there before but has finally taken over.

World – watch out for me!

  9. Hi Sean

Doctor Gunsaulus conceived (or received really) the idea of building the institution but didn’t take action on it. Note that the author said that the Doctor thought about it for 2 years and then suddenly he knew he had to take action. We don’t know why the Doctor took that long however, he pullled himself up and decided to take massive action.

Once a decision is made then it is time to take action on it otherwise it is worthless and will always remain an idea in someones mind.
