Melbourne Cup Winner

Melbourne CupAnd the Melbourne Cup Winner is… Shocking!

It looks like the horse that Kevin Rudd backed won the Melbourne Cup at Flemington today. Congratulations!

Seriously, when I wrote this article I had absolutely no idea who would win (The article is now updated and includes the winner). I am an internet marketer and this is an experiment for my coaching students to see how many people will visit this blog by typing in Melbourne Cup Winner into Google immediately after the big race. So really this is simply to prove to my students in The Internet Marketing Forum what they can achieve in a very short time.

So don’t take this too seriously. Here we go. I have no idea about horses, races or betting. Wish me luck 😉

The Race That Stops A Nation

The Melbourne Cup is also known as The Race That Stops A Nation. The race is for three-year-olds (and over) and is held over a distance of 3,200 metres. It is known as the most prestigious Two Mile Handicap in the world. Expect the nation of Australia to stand still at 4 pm on the first Tuesday in November by the race held on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.

Man, I’m running out of knowledge about horses… A top spot on Google would be nice by now. Enough chat, back to the topic 😀

The Melbourne Cup Winners

Melbourne Cup WinnerThe Melbourne Cup Winner will be announced here just after the race. Meanwhile, here is a list of the past 8 Melbourne Cup Winners and if the list bores you, there is a picture of a filly on the right:

  • 2000 Brew
  • 2001 Ethereal
  • 2002 Media Puzzle
  • 2003 – 2005 Makybe Diva
  • 2006 Delta Blues
  • 2007 Efficient
  • 2008 Viewed
  • 2009 Shocking!

Will Bart Cummings Get A Clean Sweep?

81 year old, Bart Cummings has already captured the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate this year. If he wins on the first Tuesday of November, he will have a cool trifecta in 2009 and also his 13th Melbourne Cup. On that basis, I wish Bart Cummings the best of luck!

For those of you that don’t like horses (like me – LOL), here’s a plug for my free book about Internet Marketing. Yes, it’s cheeky, I know… but I have a big heart (like Phar Lap)

I hope you had a win…

Happy day at the races

  1. Great Filly, nice horse too – good luck

  2. G’day Sean,
Like you I know Zip about racing, or possibly less. I was great mates with a vet years ago, and after his stories of abuse to these lovely animals, I took the decision to NEVER be involved with racing or even watch the race. Very determined I am and it’s been nearly 30 years.
Thanks for the opportunity to participate, but even though I love what you teach and do, I will not be part of this……..hell, there’s so much more on the forum. Thanks a Million
    Cheers
    Harry

    • Hi Harry
I’m sure there is plenty of abuse going on with those poor horses. Surely there are many that love their horses too (only platonically, I hope). Anyway, that won’t stop the race at Flemmington next week. The Melbourne Cup will produce yet another winner in 2009.

  3. Hi Sean ,
Sorry my friend , I do not gamble and I would take a guess for you except you have failed to put a list of horses here . I do not watch television or read news papers either as they all are far to negative for me .

I get my information from the internet long before , the news media . Twitter is now so far ahead it probably already knows the winner, I am watching with interest though.

  4. Your right about the foals, but she will need a good stallion.

  5. Like most Australians I have a bet on the Melbourne Cup each year. I don’t follow the races and if I didn’t work next door to a TAB I wouldn’t even place a bet though. That said, just choosing names I like, I’ve picked one of the top 3 usually for the last 5 yrs.

13 is a lucky number for me, looks like I’ll have to take a punt on Bart’s horse.

Looking forward to the lesson about the Melbourne Cup Winner and will see you on the Year of the Affiliate forum.

  7. great idea…I work in marketing and it’s a very effective idea… worked on me even before the race thought you might have tips

  8. Hi Sean,

I, like you, am not that big on the Melbourne Cup. However I do like to have a pretend punt at home. This year I asked Master 2 what his favorite number was and he answered “B”….lol So I guess I will just keep my ear to the ground to see if you have any Melbourne Cup Winners tips tonight, otherwise I will go with “B”.

Looking forward to the webinar and hearing that the Melbourne Cup Winner is………

  10. Hi Sean,
Unfortunately I can’t shed any light on the winner of the Melbourne Cup either.
I know nothing about horses and never bet on the big race.
Will be waiting and watching to see what happens here tho.
    Keep Smilin

  11. Excellent, Sean! (AGAYN!)

  12. We’ll be waiting with baited breath to hear about the winner of the Melbourne Cup. I’ll be watching the race that stops a nation – after all, I’m getting a day off for it! We’ll see if Bard Cummings can take another one away.

  13. Hi Sean

I’ve managed to pick the Melbourne Cup winner three out the last four years, with no knowledge whatsoever. Will be interesting to see if Bart can do it again…

    Cheers

  14. The weather forecast for tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup is for 20°, windy and shower or two. My prediction is that fashion will not be a winner this year.

I wonder how many hats will get blown onto the track?

  16. the real Melbournecup winner should be Bart Cummings. Read about his passion in Sydney Morning Herald last weekend.

  17. Hi Sean,
I’m normally pretty lucky picking The Melbourne Cup winner in sweeps at work. I would love to see Bart Cummings win The Melbourne Cup for the 13th time with Viewed but I think it’s a big ask. I’m going to put my money on Shocking.

  18. Hi Sean,

I’m not much help, don’t gamble but if I knew who the Melbourne Cup Winner was going to be I would likely place a pretty big bet. Nothing like a “sure thing” as they say.

I do like Tania’s suggestion, I think Bart Cummings might be on a roll this season.

I guess we will wait and see!

    Hi Sean,

I’ll have a bet on the Melbourne Cup and hopefully with a bit of luck I’ll pick the winner.
If not I will still love to watch the race that stops a nation once again this year.

Good luck everyone I hope you win.

    Regards, Jill Brown

  22. If I had to pick a Melbourne Cup Winner ahead of time… without knowing any of the names of the horses… not knowing anything about horse racing or what a winner of the Melbourne Cup actually gets for winning the Melbourne Cup… (does the winning horse point & laugh at all the other horses making a “L” shape with their hoofs on their foreheads to be losers??)

I would have to say the Melbourne Cup Winner is… 81 year old Bart Cummings – he’s an old horse… didn’t know they still let them race at that age!

If I picked the Melbourne Cup Winner… all I can say is that I have a talent!

wouldn’t it be great to know the Melbourne Cup Winner just this little bit earlier 😉 Just came back from the local Calcutta at the pub, there were some favorites, but even they don’t know who th winner of the Melbourne Cup will be this year 🙂

I am sure there will be a winner – and I hope it’s us ….

  25. Hi Sean, I have no idea who the Melbourne cup winner will be, I haven’t even had time to look and I could write everything I know about horse racing on a postage stamp….hmmm I wonder if I could expand that to an article… I’ve always liked the number 13 so I’ll put my dollar on that one.

    Bobbie

  26. Of the 24 horses here are the best at good odds:

    Cest le Guirre
    Munsef
    Crime Scene
    Harris Tweed

Have a dollar eachway and you’ll be way in front!

  30. Most of the Melbourne Cup Winners of the past decade have been horses that I had never heard of before. Will Bart Cummings beat those overseas billionaire owned horses this year? By 04.15 GMT, 3.15pm Melbourne time, we should know the answer to the question, “Who won the Melbourne Cup?”.

  31. Kevin Rudd using our tax payers money to gamble on the Melbourne Cup Winner is just SHOCKING.!!! Now the Melbourne Cup is over and the winner has been decided, I suppose we should all get back to work .

  35. Way to go Sean, what a great example you set us all. I actually did back Shocking for a win or a place so I’m over the moon, first part of my attracting wealth to us. Also had a trifecta with Alcopop, Daffodil, and Roman thingy, Glad I put my other bet on Shocking just because I had heard people on TV recommending all these horses.

  46. Hi, Sean,

Just a small typo in your blog: “Don’t take this to seriously”–“to’ is supposed to be ‘too’.

Sorry, I am not even a native English speaker but so many natives use ‘to’ and ‘too’ in a way very confusing to me.

As for the SEO side, well, your site has a long history already. Even Newton modestly said that he was only standing on the shoulders of giants, I guess I can say your new blog is based on all your past high ranking articles otherwise, nothing is that easy for newbies.

Sorry, my comment doesn’t sound that positive but I know nothing about horse racing and betting either and I haven’t seen any light on the path of my IM journey yet. It is of a different flavour from other comments I hope.

A quick question: When most of our (potential ) readers of blogs are from Australia, isn’t that a bit pointless having only US affiliate products?

Still, I will toast for all the winners.

    Tess
.-= Tess´s last blog ..Tai Chi breathing helps you have peace of mind =-.

    • Hi Tess
I’ll answer your questions in order.
      1. Just pronounce “to” and “too” the same way and it will all make sense. We Aussies don’t take ourselves too seriously, nor our spelling.
      2. It is correct that my blog post ranks high due to the history of it and I make that point quite clear to my clients. Thanks for suggesting that my site is a giant! A huge compliment indeed.
      3. When did you have fast results in life, Tess? We live in an instant gratification society, but nothing delivers in a matter of weeks. Success is for the patient. This article was an example to show my coaching clients in the forum that these results are possible. They got that information in a webinar in the forum on Monday night.
      4. I’m not sure what you mean about the affiliate products. Are you selling only American products? I suggest you sell products that appeal to the demographic of the traffic on your website.
      I hope this helps 🙂
      Regards – Sean

  47. Hi Sean–yes I backed the winner, had “Shocking” picked a week ago.Been reading your emails you send and it all looks very promising–now if I can just take that next step!I work away 2 weeks at a time and don’t have internet access or phone until my break{a week off}–see what happens next break, hey?Good luck to everyone.

Sean, what a great article. I met you very briefly back in May at the Geekversity weekend seminar and in that brief chat and after spending two days in the same room I came away with a feeling of what a genuinely nice guy you are. You even gave us all a copy of the original YOTA! Well, mine fell off the computer but I’ve spent the last several months bringing my skills up will thank you so much for the leaked version! I’m actually tempted to email it to my friends. I’ll be starting in the next few weeks so I’m looking forward to being able to get the full version. And seriously Sean, why don’t you give writing some serious thought as a second or third career. You’ve honestly got the ability for it!

  52. Bravo! Sean that was very, very clever and very, very smart. That has just opened up a huge new way of using ‘future’ keywords to capture a market. Obviously you would have to do some research into your target market and what they are into and what is coming up…but still I think it was a great demonstration of how easy it is to get on page 1 with a little bit of ‘thought’.
I use this very same strategy with video marketing and product launches. Get on page 1 of Youtube as well as Google…sometimes for a couple of days sometimes for 3 weeks but guess who gets the most views and clicks on her affiliate link for the product launches …another great strategy.
Thanks for sharing and well done.
PS. I live in Australia and I did not pick the winner…better luck next year.
    Have a fantastic day.
