Does $1,000 In Your Pocket Sound OK?

by Sean Rasmussen on March 5, 2010

Sean Rasmussen TalksHow would you like to make $1,000 without investing any money, risking anything, meeting lots of people, learning in the process and possibly having a bucket load of fun?

No, I haven’t been smoking any funny stuff! I’m talking about getting involved on a new level right here on this blog and I will reward you if you are up to it.

I can’t fit all the details in right now as I’m about to travel east for my Adelaide Internet Marketing Session (flight early in the morning), but I will outline the main details now and come back early next week with the full story.

Facebook Has Been Going Nuts!

If you are on Facebook, you may know I posted a question in there yesterday. I got 124 replies in a very short time:

Facebook QuestionSo now comes the time to deliver the answer. I thought it up in a few minutes and now I’m bound to deliver. This will be a rough outline for you to get started if you want to be in the race for $1,000 and many other rewards I will give out.

How To Participate (And Get Started)

The deal is to comment on this blog: SeanRasmussen.com. The person with the most comments on my blog, SeanRasmussen.com (SR.com) for the month of March will be rewarded with $1,000 (AUD)

  • There is $1,000 up for grabs March 2010
  • Other prizes will be given out too
  • There will be a Grand Prize for the overall winner by June 30 – 2010 for the person with the grand total most comments on SR.com

So, keep at it and look for the BIG PRIZE on June 30. I think you may just get pretty excited :D

Here are some simple rules:

  • First, join the Sean Rasmussen Talks Facebook Page. Only members of that Facebook page will be eligible to collect the $1,000.
  • Read the post you comment on.
  • Your comment must be relevant to the post and on topic.
  • Non relevant comments will be edited out and not counted.
  • Short comments will be deleted if they look SPAMMY or FLUFFY.
  • You need to use the same name every time you comment so my software will count your comments.
  • Use a REAL NAME. Names like “SEO King” & “Avon Girl” won’t be counted. I can’t wite out a cheque for $1,000 to Avon Girl.
  • Use the same email address when commenting (is only used by software to ID you as the commenter).
  • Your comment count is counted for the month of March 2010.
  • Any comments you have previously made on SR.com in March-2010 will count towards your total.
  • You will be able to see your total running comment tally in the homepage sidebar on SeanRasmussen.com.
  • When posting a comment on SR.com for the first time, I need to approve it before it shows up live in the comment view. This is to prevent SPAM.
  • You must be 18 years of age.
  • Abusive, defamatory, irrelevant or questionable comments will be removed and not counted.
  • Old posts, back dated to the start of the blog, are OK to post on.
  • There is no limit to how many comments you can make. Just keep them relevant.
  • Do not post multiple comments in the same thread, unless you are contributing genuine content to the conversation.
  • Short comments that are obviously posted to get your count up will be edited out and removed.
  • When you have commented, leave a comment in Sean Rasmussen Talks (on Facebook) to let me know it is there for me to check out.
  • Sean Rasmussen’s decision is final and undisputable when choosing the winner.
  • I am not part of the competition ;)
  • I will send the money to the winner ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, as long as the laws of that country allows it.
  • Fine tuning to these rules may be coming…

Next week, I will make some video’s for those of you that may be beginners or need assistance to get involved. You can get started now. Comment anywhere on SeanRasmussen.com to get started. Actually, why not leave a reply (comment) on this very post? There’s no time like the present…

Great challenge Sean, one that this time I will be able to participate in. When I first met you I attempted to win the challenge for the most people to buy “Year of the Affiliate”. I see many have already begun posting small, rather irrelevent comments, Nicely done guys.

I think the idea is good, so long as people follow the rules outlined, and contribute in a meaningful way. I have seen a lot of backstabbing, lying, and general havoc when the term “Competition” has been added to the mix. People will do almost anything for a freebie. Im not saying that is going to happen here, but sometimes people do funny things to win something silly.
Please don’t ruin Sean’s good intentions JUST for the sake of winning something.

Sean, perhaps add a rule stating a minimum word count in order to be counted? You mentioned not to post short little nothings… how short is short?

May the most deserving person win, all.

Greg

Hi Greg
I will be deleting irrelevant and short messages. This will be a fair contest. I appreciate your concern and you have shown me already that this can contribute to a healthy discussion.
Posts like this article (above) are justified to have short “Thank you. This sounds like a fun contest” answers from participants. Every article has it’s own characteristics for answers.
Cheers mate :)

Great to learn from watching you respond to comments, Sean. I think people can get a bit carried away with agreeing with everything, so as not to rock the boat. Just as some people can get carried away with disagreeing, just to stir up trouble. Glad you have the professionalism and experience to tell the difference.

I was finding it odd too that no one was here disagreeing with anything being said but not surprised. People are finding this blog for a reason and taking advantage of the wisdom being shared, as it was mentioned prior it’s no longer all about the monetary gain of the competition but a starting ground for our own successes.

Most comments are so compelling and inspiring that I’ve almost forgotten about the numbers of comments feeling some ranks of comments are not correspondent with the high values of the content being blogged about.

Hey Sean,

Awesome idea, Here are two things I love about this concept which I have learnt today and hope others can also take from you.

1) You are teaching through action and sharing ways to increase traffic to your site

2) I often ask people through facebook to comment on my blog. I may get 10 comments but they comment on facebook and not my blog which is less effective. This helps overcome this problem.

To finish here is one potential idea. You mention that short posts are not included. Maybe you could also go the other way in addition to that and give a bonus half point to extra valuable comments and comments that share with the community.

Enjoy Adelaide and looking forward to catching you at TGR in Melbourne in 2 weeks time.

I am just surprised at how many people aren’t using comment luv on here – or even linking their names! Sean – have you tried the ‘keyword luv’ plugin – instead of putting up with all those comments from ‘avon girl’ and ‘acai berry’ people you can let them link their anchor text like this: Name @Anchor Text and only the anchor text is linked – great for SEO but also great for comment generation – let me know if you want more details – there are directories you could list your site at as well that would promote this site as a ‘keyword luv’ enabled blog. Love the way your mind works BTW :) This is a cool comp…

Once the exercise is complete would it be possible to get an idea of the types of comments that didn’t meet the criteria?
.-= Gee´s last blog ..Search Engine Optimization Tips For Baby Boomers =-.

Reply

Sean Rasmussen March 9, 2010 at 9:21 am

Hi Gee

It is quite simple. If a comment is made simply to clock up a tally with no obvious effort to add to the conversation, then it will most likely get deleted.

Likewise, if the commenter can’t be bothered with their grammar, punctuation and courtesy to other readers, it will most likely end up on the scrapheap.

Reply

Sean K Kelly March 9, 2010 at 11:42 am

And rightfully so!
Actually this is the second time I’ve commented on this post but it would seem that Sean is getting so much spam form people trying to make a quick buck that his software filters are working overtime to try to keep it out and sometimes the good seed is being thrown out with the bad.

Be real good people. If you are serious about the competition, obey the rules and everyone will benefit one way or the other. Even if you don’t win I daresay there will be some good advice and tips come from it.

And while I’m on the subject, Sean is demonstrating a great way to get traffic by doing this and I’m sure he’ll well and truly re-coup his $1000 when it’s all over and I’d to suggest that everyone can do the same thing if they want.

Samantha Banfield (Witty Sam) March 9, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Sean R… I agree but what Sean also does – for me anyway – is to make me think outside the box. Not necessarily copy exactly what he’s doing here but to get creative cause I think that’s the kinda chap Sean is. Add tongue-in-cheek and a really great sense of humour to that – but that’s part of the recipe that makes him so successful!

Still, I sit and also try to analyse – or overanalyse what Sean does and that leads to procrastination. Mainly because I want to get it right… but when you read the mindset blogs I get a bit of clarity on my ‘crap’.

Participate… and as you say get some advice & tips. And remember to have fun – everyone will get more out of it!

Friendly food for social media think…

Attraction and excitement are important ingredients to successful engagement. You’re contest may just do these things well. But you’ll need things like interaction and conversation to make the engagement complete, sustainable and relevant.

Do you think you’re readers and contestants will connect with each other on their own? Or will you have to give them a little nudge every now and then? Will a coherent conversation breakthrough the weeds and flower?

I look forward to seeing how you work this out. I look forward to seeing if we can rise to the challenge.

Well it looks like some people here might need to do a Cert IV in financial services for BAS service providers just so they know what to do with all that booty! I am not nearly as smart at marketing as Sean but I do have good clues on where to find more of those leprechaun buckets of cash to fund educational activities.

Really – you know where to find more of those leprechaun buckets of cash? I thought they were at the end of a rainbow – hehehe. Saw a rainbow the other day when it was raining, but didn’t know how to find the end of it. lol Just joking, but wish there was such a thing – maybe people like Sean are the next best thing.

Hi Sean,
I love your generous offer, Thank You! I’ve joined the FB page, and also replied to your email. I hope NOW, that I am on the right page! What worries me, is how I’ll get back to it and find it each day, but hey – overcoming challenges is what abundant living is all about.

Reply

Diana Kavanagh March 11, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Hi Nancy,
About finding the page you want each day – click on “Favourites”, while you’re on the page you want to get back to, and then click on “Add to Favourites”. A little window will open called “Add a Favourite” with the name of the page you’re on in the “name bar”- you then click in the box called “Add”. An “entry” with the “name of the page”, will be made at the bottom of your Favourites List. Then when you want to come back to the page, click on Favourites and the Favourites List will drop down – then just click on the “entry” for the page you want, and you’ll be taken to the page you want. I hope you can follow my instructions and I hope this helps.

Reply

Dobbs Franks March 12, 2010 at 1:55 pm

I tried to follow your instructions. I clicked so many times on so many things that I thought were the right things that I was amazed that I have wound up talking to myself.

However, I do thank you for the amusement and exercise for my clicking mechanism.

Hi Dobbs, how is your clicking exercise going? If you cannot get it work just write here and we will work it out. I use firefox and and all my ‘hot website’ are in bookmarks toolbar so I can access then via one click only.

Reply

Diana Kavanagh March 24, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Obviously you didn’t follow my instructions at all – because that’s how you bookmark a website on your Favourites List. Once you have bookmarked the website, you only have to click on Favourites (top left side of computer screen) and the Favourites List drops down and then you click ‘once’ on the website you want in your Favourites List, and you just get taken to the website. Simple!

Just to clarify the rules.
When you have commented, leave a comment in Sean Rasmussen Talks (on Facebook) to let me know it is there for me to check out.
Do you want a comment on Facebook for every comment on SR.com? Or once per every day that we comment to cover multiple comments? Or even less frequently?
.-= Wal Heinrich´s last blog ..Internet Marketing Why? How? =-.

Reply

Radek Simcik March 13, 2010 at 10:03 am

Hi Wal, I think that Sean meant to leave him a comment only the first time. That means when your comment needs to be approved so it could be counted and actually visible to others. On the other hand Sean might like you to leave Facebook comment every time you comment on SR. :-)

Reply

Sean Rasmussen March 13, 2010 at 10:41 am

Yes. Your comment only needs approval the first time. After that the next comments automatically publish immediately (unless they contain spam terms). I also like you to go to the SeanRasmussenTalks FanPage to notify that you have posted comments.
Another thing you can do is post the link of the post you have commented on in your profile.

Reply

Wal Heinrich March 14, 2010 at 10:30 am

Sean, apologies, still not totally clear.
It sounds like you are suggesting that after each comment we go to SRT and our own Facebook pages and advise that we have posted a comment. This would mean that Jill and Jazz and Renee should be posting to their Facebook pages and to SeanRasmussenTalks about 40 or 50 times a day (or however many times these human dynamos comment on this blog). Is that right? Or is once a day sufficient? And this means putting 40 or 50 active links per day on FB per day or per post as well???
By the way, the notify me of followup comments box is new? I didn’t notice it before. I love it!

Reply

Wal Heinrich March 15, 2010 at 10:43 am

I just tried to put all my comment links so far on Facebook in one message and FB said I exceeded my limit. Only 420 characters allowed per message. So that would limit the number of multiple links per message to about 5.
.-= Wal Heinrich´s last blog ..Internet Marketing Why? How? =-.

Sarah Butland March 18, 2010 at 10:18 am

Wal – Sean just wanted to get an FYI of your very first comment so he could approve it and you could continue to comment. It is not necessary to put the actual comment itself, just let him know to check his records and approve your comment.

Hope this helps.

Your last blog title caught my eye, Harry, and I bookmarked your website for later perusal. I did try to comment on one of your posts and the site seemed to have stuck but I will definitely be going back to it later.

I am so very proud of my son, to answer your question, so proud that I was tempted to let him eat cake (he’s only 4 months old) yesterday lol

Talk about Law of Attraction, you have attracted quite the buzz. My hats off to you and I applaud the innovation of the idea. It has my thinking cap working full time to attract people to my own ventures. Well done, and happy commenting. (hmmm.. 2 head cover analogies, maybe my head is cold. Well I am in Canada, so that would make sense.) Cheers!

I just realized that my day and times may be / are different than yours in Australia, Sean. Could you please specify when this competition ends as I am on a roll and do not want it to be for naught (I want it to be for the competition as that’s all I’m doing today and tomorrow). It’s March 30th, 2010 and 8:54 AM where I am writing from as I write.

I think that at this stage of the competition you must be pretty thrilled with the results Sean! Well done for the innovative idea on getting loads of comments, fresh content and traffic.

Hi Sean,
You’re drawing a lot of interest by running a competition. Now the next one is about to start.

I’m just starting to warm up and could soon become an expert…….

Hey Sean,

Well, diving in to the For A Few More Dollars comp, and thought I would go through all the backlogged links. This post definitely cleared up a few queries I had on just how to go about commenting. I’m guessing that A Few More Dollars comp is going to be a little more involved than the Fist Full of Dollars comp, but time will tell!

Thanks again for the opportunity!

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks Lincoln.
174 people before you missed that! I like your eye for detail. I did that typo on purpose to test you out (not really) ;)

Wow, this is a very clever way to get people to interact with your site and learn what you are teaching at the same time! I see Jazz Salinger was the lucky winner of the “For A fist Full of dollars” competition that was for $1,000 and I bet she is very pleased with her success! : )
