Family First. I’m Going Outback

A few months ago I made a promise to my 2 sons and my 80 year ‘young’ Mother: To take my sons to visit their Grandmother in January 2009. The original plan was to drive 2300km each way, as I do every year, or to take the train. As I have been sidetracked a fraction with my upcoming “Smart online profit systems” events, I managed to forget about this.

Family First – I’m Going Outback

I offered to fly my Mum across to see us at my home but it didn’t work out. So today, I decided to book flight tickets and hire a car for the trip. Tomorrow morning, I get up at 2am, drive to Perth and catch the plane at 6am to Adelaide with my 2 sons. Then we drive about 7 hours to get to my Mums house.

I’ll bring my laptop and my phone and I can still prepare for my upcoming internet marketing events. Meanwhile my boys get to see their Grandmother again.

What Really Matters

Sean and sons at the beach surfingWhy am I telling you this? Simple! In life, it’s easy to get sidetracked by all the noise. We forget what really matters most to us in life. I am following my heart. That is what matters to me: My family. When my boys are older, they wont remember why we canceled a trip to see their Grandmother, they will only remember that it got canceled.

Result: We are going. I wont let them down. My lovely wife, Cherie, is holding the fort at home and running the internet marketing business. Once again, she saves the day for me.

When you look at things, it becomes apparent that there is always a solution to every ‘problem’. No matter how big or small it is. Now, I’m booked to go on the plane, I realise that it will be a much better place for me to prepare for the upcoming workshops. I can go fishing with my Brother and my 2 sons. Spending time with my Mum will also be good for me and I will have plenty of time and clarity to be creative. Speaking to 200+ people requires a lot of preparation and information. So, it seems that a trip to South Australia is just the tonic for me. It will even prepare a better event for the people attending.

This would have to be the fastest blogpost I’ve written in history! I’m off to bed for some rest. See you all soon.

Have a most outstanding day

  5. Have a great time Sean. You have worked so hard in the last few months yet you still seem to find the time and energy to do right by your family ! This is a great encouragement to all of us to look at the balance of our lives and strive for success in both work and rest!

  6. Where is the photo taken Sean – it looks like white pointer country in the Southern Ocean. Have fun with your family.

  7. Yes the importance of family, we take it for granted that they will always be here. Talk to them and see them as much as you can, especially as they get older. I have planned to spend Mothers day with my mum in SA, and whilst my travelling schedule is busier than it would normally be, I will never go back on my promise to her. Wise words Sean, thanx for the post.

  8. @ Sharon de Bruyn. Yes, I think Cherie will agree with you on that one šŸ˜‰
@ Rob. It was Taken in Albany between Xmas and New Year. I’m in the water to fight off the white pointers if they dare come near my kids.
@ Trixie. I’m in SA now. 2am start, 3 hour drive to airport, 6.20am flight, 3,5 hours in the air, 8 hour drive once we got to SA = 18 hours later we arrived šŸ™‚

  11. Hi Sean, good to read that you are sticking to your 10 targets that you had for 2009 and that you stick to your priorities, even so you need to be more creative than “just doing what you do”.
Well done šŸ™‚ – and I am sure you had a blast!

    Hi Sean,

It’s easy to get sidetracked by everything you have to do in life and sometimes you can forget what is really important. We’re all working so hard to give our families a better life that we can forget how important it is to actually spend time with them.

I’m very happy to see Sean, that you are modeling the right way to live, so we learn to remember what’s really important.

  14. Always remember why you are doing whatever you are doing.
It is no good working flat out to achieve your dreams and not being able to savour the previous moments.

I’m sure you had a ball. There is always a way around the obstacles

  15. Hello Sean,

Its good to teach your boys what is really important in life – Family. Without Family then life is not worth striving towards bigger and better goals. Good to hear that another family realises the true value of life. FAMILY is more important than all the moeny in the world. Hope your trip was filled with many memories for your young boys and their Grandma (your Mum) šŸ™‚

    Cheers

  16. G’day Sean,
Reading this post has reinforced my reasons for being part of the YOTA experience and given me a good kick in the backside about priorities. As I’ve said before, your focus on family first is very commendable. Bet the boys remember this expedition.
I am more determined now to make this work !
