Does $1,000 In Your Pocket Sound OK?

Sean Rasmussen TalksHow would you like to make $1,000 without investing any money, risking anything, meeting lots of people, learning in the process and possibly having a bucket load of fun?

No, I haven’t been smoking any funny stuff! I’m talking about getting involved on a new level right here on this blog and I will reward you if you are up to it.

I can’t fit all the details in right now as I’m about to travel east for my Adelaide Internet Marketing Session (flight early in the morning), but I will outline the main details now and come back early next week with the full story.

Facebook Has Been Going Nuts!

If you are on Facebook, you may know I posted a question in there yesterday. I got 124 replies in a very short time:

Facebook QuestionSo now comes the time to deliver the answer. I thought it up in a few minutes and now I’m bound to deliver. This will be a rough outline for you to get started if you want to be in the race for $1,000 and many other rewards I will give out.

How To Participate (And Get Started)

The deal is to comment on this blog: SeanRasmussen.com. The person with the most comments on my blog, SeanRasmussen.com (SR.com) for the month of March will be rewarded with $1,000 (AUD)

  • There is $1,000 up for grabs March 2010
  • Other prizes will be given out too
  • There will be a Grand Prize for the overall winner by June 30 – 2010 for the person with the grand total most comments on SR.com

So, keep at it and look for the BIG PRIZE on June 30. I think you may just get pretty excited πŸ˜€

Here are some simple rules:

  • First, join the Sean Rasmussen Talks Facebook Page. Only members of that Facebook page will be eligible to collect the $1,000.
  • Read the post you comment on.
  • Your comment must be relevant to the post and on topic.
  • Non relevant comments will be edited out and not counted.
  • Short comments will be deleted if they look SPAMMY or FLUFFY.
  • You need to use the same name every time you comment so my software will count your comments.
  • Use a REAL NAME. Names like “SEO King” & “Avon Girl” won’t be counted. I can’t wite out a cheque for $1,000 to Avon Girl.
  • Use the same email address when commenting (is only used by software to ID you as the commenter).
  • Your comment count is counted for the month of March 2010.
  • Any comments you have previously made on SR.com in March-2010 will count towards your total.
  • You will be able to see your total running comment tally in the homepage sidebar on SeanRasmussen.com.
  • When posting a comment on SR.com for the first time, I need to approve it before it shows up live in the comment view. This is to prevent SPAM.
  • You must be 18 years of age.
  • Abusive, defamatory, irrelevant or questionable comments will be removed and not counted.
  • Old posts, back dated to the start of the blog, are OK to post on.
  • There is no limit to how many comments you can make. Just keep them relevant.
  • Do not post multiple comments in the same thread, unless you are contributing genuine content to the conversation.
  • Short comments that are obviously posted to get your count up will be edited out and removed.
  • When you have commented, leave a comment in Sean Rasmussen Talks (on Facebook) to let me know it is there for me to check out.
  • Sean Rasmussen’s decision is final and undisputable when choosing the winner.
  • I am not part of the competition πŸ˜‰
  • I will send the money to the winner ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, as long as the laws of that country allows it.
  • Fine tuning to these rules may be coming…

Next week, I will make some video’s for those of you that may be beginners or need assistance to get involved. You can get started now. Comment anywhere on SeanRasmussen.com to get started. Actually, why not leave a reply (comment) on this very post? There’s no time like the present…

  7. Great challenge Sean, one that this time I will be able to participate in. When I first met you I attempted to win the challenge for the most people to buy “Year of the Affiliate”. I was going to buy 10 copies to keep in my clinic, not realizing it was an ebook. Actually I had never heard of an E-book before that, now I write them.

  12. I see many have already begun posting small, rather irrelevent comments, Nicely done guys.

I think the idea is good, so long as people follow the rules outlined, and contribute in a meaningful way. I have seen a lot of backstabbing, lying, and general havoc when the term “Competition” has been added to the mix. People will do almost anything for a freebie. Im not saying that is going to happen here, but sometimes people do funny things to win something silly.
Please don’t ruin Sean’s good intentions JUST for the sake of winning something.

Sean, perhaps add a rule stating a minimum word count in order to be counted? You mentioned not to post short little nothings… how short is short?

May the most deserving person win, all.

    Greg

    • Hi Greg
I will be deleting irrelevant and short messages. This will be a fair contest. I appreciate your concern and you have shown me already that this can contribute to a healthy discussion.
Posts like this article (above) are justified to have short “Thank you. This sounds like a fun contest” answers from participants. Every article has it’s own characteristics for answers.
      Cheers mate πŸ™‚

      • Great to learn from watching you respond to comments, Sean. I think people can get a bit carried away with agreeing with everything, so as not to rock the boat. Just as some people can get carried away with disagreeing, just to stir up trouble. Glad you have the professionalism and experience to tell the difference.

        • I was finding it odd too that no one was here disagreeing with anything being said but not surprised. People are finding this blog for a reason and taking advantage of the wisdom being shared, as it was mentioned prior it’s no longer all about the monetary gain of the competition but a starting ground for our own successes.

Most comments are so compelling and inspiring that I’ve almost forgotten about the numbers of comments feeling some ranks of comments are not correspondent with the high values of the content being blogged about.

    • One of the great things in here is to read the different interpretations of each comment, they all mean the same but have a different approach to what the writer is trying to say. You know the competition word has been mentioned many times i wonder how many more time we will hear it.

  16. Jazz Salinger says:

    Hi Sean,
This sounds like a fantastic opportunity to get a swag of quality backlinks and learn a bit about the art of commenting on blogs in the process. I struggled in the beginning when I started out commenting on other people’s blogs and I think I’m getting better, but by the end of this month, I think I’ll be doing a lot better. As they say, practice makes perfect.

  17. Jen Nelson (nee Xuereb) says:

Good point Greg. I’m not into being nasty so it never even crossed my mind that people would stoop so low!
You seem to have it all figured out Sean!

  18. Hey Sean,

Awesome idea, Here are two things I love about this concept which I have learnt today and hope others can also take from you.

    1) You are teaching through action and sharing ways to increase traffic to your site

    2) I often ask people through facebook to comment on my blog. I may get 10 comments but they comment on facebook and not my blog which is less effective. This helps overcome this problem.

To finish here is one potential idea. You mention that short posts are not included. Maybe you could also go the other way in addition to that and give a bonus half point to extra valuable comments and comments that share with the community.

Enjoy Adelaide and looking forward to catching you at TGR in Melbourne in 2 weeks time.

  19. I am just surprised at how many people aren’t using comment luv on here – or even linking their names! Sean – have you tried the ‘keyword luv’ plugin – instead of putting up with all those comments from ‘avon girl’ and ‘acai berry’ people you can let them link their anchor text like this: Name @Anchor Text and only the anchor text is linked – great for SEO but also great for comment generation – let me know if you want more details – there are directories you could list your site at as well that would promote this site as a ‘keyword luv’ enabled blog. Love the way your mind works BTW πŸ™‚ This is a cool comp…

  25. Sean …… I and many others have already commented on a number of your posts. What happens if we re-comment on the same posts, either deliberately or mistakenly, will we be penalized by you or Google?
.-= Wal Heinrich´s last blog ..Selective Breeding vs Genetic Modification Part 2: Genetic Modification =-.

    • You wont be penalised. If the comment ads value I will approve it. Don’t think of Google. We are having a conversation and any comment that ads value will stay. Others I will delete.

  26. Another thing Sean, just wondering about the tax situation for the person who is lucky enough to win. If the winner is Australian, will they have to include this $1000 on their tax form? Thanks.
.-= Wal Heinrich´s last blog ..Selective Breeding vs Genetic Modification Part 2: Genetic Modification =-.

  27. This is very interesting, one thing this will do is keep the page fresh, therefor allowing Sean some time to get on with other projects he has in the pipeline am I right in my thoughts ??

  28. Sean, great idea. It will be interesting to see who the winner is. I liked your comment to Wal about it’s all of us having a conversation. Looking forward to continuing conversations both in March and into the next future.
    .-= Tania Shipman´s last blog ..Thanks =-.

  29. Using my real name is what i was taught, and it is understandable because you build your persona people will come to trust you

  30. Nothing like a little incentive to have people participating on your blog hey Sean πŸ˜‰

Hope everyone remembers that you should be reading the post’s and providing an informative comment – nobody likes comment spam.

  31. Getting more comments on blogs is a challenge for all bloggers. Nothing like a competition, and cold hard cash, to get people commenting more though! Sean, thanks for your effort in getting more people to be active. Apart from striving to win the money, I hope people get something out of the process of visiting your blog frequently and being active on it.
.-= Lina Nguyen´s last blog ..What life is about =-.

    • They sure will get something out of it. For starters you will all learn from reading the articles. Secondly, you will learn from the exercise. Thirdly: (it’s a secret) πŸ˜‰

  32. You Know what, I don’t really need to win $1000, the knowledge I am gaining through this exercise will be worth much more than that. To Keep reading each comment can give you an Idea which can in turn become a blog. So this is another teaching tool keeping you thinking and learning

  33. Ilse Aschenbrenner says:

Thanks for offering the competition. It is prompting me to actually DO something to learn about internet marketing. (why does it take a carrot to kick me into action ?? lol)

  34. Hi Sean

What a great idea. Your competition will certainly create a lot of interest. I am still honing the skill of blog commenting and your competition will assist in that.

Once the exercise is complete would it be possible to get an idea of the types of comments that didn’t meet the criteria?
.-= Gee´s last blog ..Search Engine Optimization Tips For Baby Boomers =-.

    • Hi Gee

It is quite simple. If a comment is made simply to clock up a tally with no obvious effort to add to the conversation, then it will most likely get deleted.

Likewise, if the commenter can’t be bothered with their grammar, punctuation and courtesy to other readers, it will most likely end up on the scrapheap.

  35. And rightfully so!
Actually this is the second time I’ve commented on this post but it would seem that Sean is getting so much spam form people trying to make a quick buck that his software filters are working overtime to try to keep it out and sometimes the good seed is being thrown out with the bad.

Be real good people. If you are serious about the competition, obey the rules and everyone will benefit one way or the other. Even if you don’t win I daresay there will be some good advice and tips come from it.

And while I’m on the subject, Sean is demonstrating a great way to get traffic by doing this and I’m sure he’ll well and truly re-coup his $1000 when it’s all over and I’d to suggest that everyone can do the same thing if they want.

    • Sean R… I agree but what Sean also does – for me anyway – is to make me think outside the box. Not necessarily copy exactly what he’s doing here but to get creative cause I think that’s the kinda chap Sean is. Add tongue-in-cheek and a really great sense of humour to that – but that’s part of the recipe that makes him so successful!

Still, I sit and also try to analyse – or overanalyse what Sean does and that leads to procrastination. Mainly because I want to get it right… but when you read the mindset blogs I get a bit of clarity on my ‘crap’.

Participate… and as you say get some advice & tips. And remember to have fun – everyone will get more out of it!
.-= Samantha Banfield (Witty Sam)´s last blog ..Ultimate Dream Jobs… =-.

    • Not just for the sake for this competition – but if you’re real about value-adding, building relationships and supporting other bloggers, then it stands to reason that you’ll make an effort to comment appropriately.

I used the same email address both times, and that is also my email address on FB. (THis is Post No 3.)

  48. Friendly food for social media think…

Attraction and excitement are important ingredients to successful engagement. You’re contest may just do these things well. But you’ll need things like interaction and conversation to make the engagement complete, sustainable and relevant.

Do you think you’re readers and contestants will connect with each other on their own? Or will you have to give them a little nudge every now and then? Will a coherent conversation breakthrough the weeds and flower?

I look forward to seeing how you work this out. I look forward to seeing if we can rise to the challenge.

    • Diana Kavanagh says:

      Hi Nancy,
About finding the page you want each day – click on “Favourites”, while you’re on the page you want to get back to, and then click on “Add to Favourites”. A little window will open called “Add a Favourite” with the name of the page you’re on in the “name bar”- you then click in the box called “Add”. An “entry” with the “name of the page”, will be made at the bottom of your Favourites List. Then when you want to come back to the page, click on Favourites and the Favourites List will drop down – then just click on the “entry” for the page you want, and you’ll be taken to the page you want. I hope you can follow my instructions and I hope this helps.

      • Diana

I tried to follow your instructions. I clicked so many times on so many things that I thought were the right things that I was amazed that I have wound up talking to myself.

However, I do thank you for the amusement and exercise for my clicking mechanism.

.-= Dobbs Franks´s last blog ..Enhance Your Life With Your Art =-.

        • Radek Simcik says:

Hi Dobbs, how is your clicking exercise going? If you cannot get it work just write here and we will work it out. I use firefox and and all my ‘hot website’ are in bookmarks toolbar so I can access then via one click only.

        • Diana Kavanagh says:

Obviously you didn’t follow my instructions at all – because that’s how you bookmark a website on your Favourites List. Once you have bookmarked the website, you only have to click on Favourites (top left side of computer screen) and the Favourites List drops down and then you click ‘once’ on the website you want in your Favourites List, and you just get taken to the website. Simple!

  60. Yolanda Walsh says:

Well, I am impressed with your idea. A great way to get traffic and I’m looking forward to see what articles you have.

  61. Sounds like an awful lot of work for 1000.00 (AUD)

  62. As for me, this is a great offer cause it would help me in so many ways, in case… I found it no risk at all, in fact, this a win win thing. I’m not just learning wisdom from the books and articles that you are sharing, I have also been given a chance to gain some dollars. Thanks!

  63. Well the rules seem pretty straight forward… $1000 in my pocket sounds like a sweet deal but I wander how fierce the competition will get??? Nothing like a juicy carrot to get the rabbits bouncing : )

I do love bouncing. I am hoping that I can bounce longer and higher than anyone else. But, whatever I am enjoying meeting all of you and reading what Sean has posted. His advice is always worth taking in and thinking about.

See you at the next bounce.

      • This has been thus far the most fantastic way to meet so MANY people. Bouncing is one thing but staying awake long enough is another…

I have really enjoyed reading Sean’s blogs… I have even tried to read between the lines because I swear there is more than meets the eye!

Once I have cracked that code I will be the beholder of the secret… and be totally nuts! Read, my pretties… read

Hi Sean, great idea to get lots of people to check out your site. What $1000 wouldn’t do for my financial situation – Wow! Very generous of you. By the way, thanks for all your emails but talking to people about money is not my best thing – public speaking about anything is not me – I’m to scared.
Anyway best of luck to the best person. I’m sure that whoever wins will put it to good use.
    Regards,
    Diana Kavanagh.

  65. Diana Kavanagh says:

Hi again Sean, I forgot to mention in my previous comment, that I have no idea how to use Face Book or Twitter, as I’ve never been to Face Book myself, and I haven’t got a Face Book whatever.
    Regards again,
    Diana Kavanagh.

  66. Don’t think I’m going to be able to post enough to win the $1000, but hey blogging is fun and I think Sean deserves the kudos for thinking up this idea. Here’s an idea for the eventual winner: check out a cool way to trade your $1000 and make a few more fistfulls: check out the website linked to this post…

      Hi Greg,
That’s interesting about the online trading – my son-in-law does trading too so I’ll tell him about The Perfect Expect Advisor? It might help him with his trading, coz I’m not sure he’s doing that well. Thanks.

  67. I know I am not either Greg but its a great learning exercise but I do have FAITH that I will accumulate my cash anyway

    • Rita we are all winners regardless of whether we win the $1000 or not. I also agree that we can learn so much from the blogs and from ourselves and each other!

Let’s do it all together as a community!

      • Diana Kavanagh says:

        Hi Samantha & Rita,
Yeah I agree about learning – I might “learn” how to use Face Book and Twitter – (never tried before) that is if I can get my 16yr old daughter to show me how – they say one is never to old to learn.

        • You can do it Diana… otherwise you can ask. There are plenty of people here or if you have joined the Forum then it’s THE place to get all the knowledge you’ll need to be empowered!!!

Go forth & you can make it happen!
.-= Samantha Banfield´s last blog ..Sean Rasmussen and his crazy talk! =-.

          • Diana Kavanagh says:

Thank you Samantha, I’ve actually learned a bit just by roaming around Facebook but I’m not going to bother with Twitter just now – this is enough for the time being. Thanks for your confidence in me – wish I had it.

      • I agree, even if it’s not the $1000 direct from Sean I think true followers and action takers will win much more than $1000 from consistently reading and meeting people who believe and support.

  70. Sean – you blow me away. Not only are you a great guy on the internet, you are a fantastic guy in person, and now this – a competition that is getting everyones attention. It just goes to show that those that care are always the ones to follow. Good idea – love the videos on how to get started, and how the competition works…..sure makes it easier to understand. Wow! Im getting excited just thinking about being able to contribute, let alone win a thousand dollars. I’ve been working at this LOA stuff on and off over the last few years and thanks to facebook pages such as yours I have learnt so so much from being able to share and learn from other everyday people from around the world, the internet is SO awesome.

  72. Just letting you know that I am having alot of FUN!!!!

Guess what… for some strange reason I am learning quite abit about myself. Getting some real insights while I am reading the blogs – and learning about other people. I am noticing how I react when I read replies from people that aren’t coming from a good place – they are on their own journeys & I know they will get there eventually!! I have faith in them!!

What a fantastic journey I am on – sure there is the $1000 challenge but guys it’s far bigger than that!!!!

  73. Just to clarify the rules.
When you have commented, leave a comment in Sean Rasmussen Talks (on Facebook) to let me know it is there for me to check out.
Do you want a comment on Facebook for every comment on SR.com? Or once per every day that we comment to cover multiple comments? Or even less frequently?
.-= Wal Heinrich´s last blog ..Internet Marketing Why? How? =-.

    • Radek Simcik says:

Hi Wal, I think that Sean meant to leave him a comment only the first time. That means when your comment needs to be approved so it could be counted and actually visible to others. On the other hand Sean might like you to leave Facebook comment every time you comment on SR. πŸ™‚

      • Yes. Your comment only needs approval the first time. After that the next comments automatically publish immediately (unless they contain spam terms). I also like you to go to the SeanRasmussenTalks FanPage to notify that you have posted comments.
Another thing you can do is post the link of the post you have commented on in your profile.

        • Sean, apologies, still not totally clear.
It sounds like you are suggesting that after each comment we go to SRT and our own Facebook pages and advise that we have posted a comment. This would mean that Jill and Jazz and Renee should be posting to their Facebook pages and to SeanRasmussenTalks about 40 or 50 times a day (or however many times these human dynamos comment on this blog). Is that right? Or is once a day sufficient? And this means putting 40 or 50 active links per day on FB per day or per post as well???
By the way, the notify me of followup comments box is new? I didn’t notice it before. I love it!

  74. “Does $1,ooo in my pocket sound ok?” yep it sure does, but even better $1,000 donated to my favorite charity sounds even better. I would love to help those that really need it….I would have trouble deciding which charity to give the money to, but it would be fun to share it all around. Food for thought!! great way for more traffic to a website, was wondering what the other prizes will be?
So looking forward to reading other comments, and to see how this competition goes.

  76. Ben Barrett says:

This contest should be fairly interesting. Best of luck to all those who try for it but I plan to win. LOA is powerful stuff and I’m trying my best to learn to use it to its fullest in my life. I know this contest will help with that in one way or another.

    Ben

  77. Radek Simcik says:

Hi Sean, can I somehow get notification to replies of my comments? Otherwise it is very hard to track all my comments here. Thank you. R

  78. Sean, another check of the rules, if I may. I know there are some husbands and wives competing. What if they both submit comments under the same name therefore halving the work for each and increasing their competitiveness? Is this allowed?

  79. Just checking back in to update my comment about this dang-diddly challenge…

One thing that people call me, and if you have seen “Friends” then you will get it, is “Monica” – and I have to confess that is me – well, the characteristics that Monica from Friends had. Eeeek… I have opened myself up there!!

But apart from learning so much – about myself as well but I am opening up, making up new & interesting words – I am becoming more into who I am & therefore letting loose (letting go). I highly recommend this to everyone.
