I suppose there are lots of words you could use to describe what Napoleon Hill calls definite purpose. A very applicable term would be persistence. Persistence is a key to financial success.
“How many people out there today have stopped just inches away from their goal because of some roadblock, some hurdle? How many people give up on fantastic business ideas because the first bank they approached turned down their loan application? How different would the lives of those people be if, rather than accept defeat first-off, they steeled themselves to rejection, thanked the Bank President for his effort, and instead sought an alternative investment route—Investment Capitalists, private investors, local Community Development programs—the list of possibilities goes on and on.
How often have we heard stories from the entertainment industry about the singer or actor living in near-poverty, packing their bags for home who stayed just one more day, and on that day got the fateful call from the record executive or casting call that catapulted them to stardom, fame, and fortune?
“Before success is found in any person’s life, that person is sure to be faced with more than his or her share of temporary defeat, and quite possibly some failure. When defeat overtakes somebody the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. And that is exactly what the majority of people do.”
Temporary Defeat
It’s true. Most people just quit in the face of what seems like hopeless temporary defeat; in fact, most of us are probably guilty of doing just that. The lucky among us learn early and limit the effect failure has on us. Those are the ones who build wealth early in life, but regardless of age, it is never too late to turn your financial life around. Any man or woman can be rich in their lifetime.
I will see you back here Monday and Thursday every week for the continuation of the Mindset Mastery series.
I get a lot of emails. Preferably, people comment in the blog and everyone can benefit from the answer. My philosophies that are inspired heavily by Dr Demartini, Napoleon Hill, Kurek Ashley, Wallace Wattles and many more, do challenge a lot of people.
Why Isn’t This Working For Me?
Here is an example of an email I got from a lady last week: (she will remain nameless)
“I wish I could have $1M this week! Funny hey! But it is true! That is what I wish and hope for so much for a specific reason. Now, come on, you know you can’t do that with nothing!!”
This is very true, indeed! Now, I would have loved to get that response in the “Comments Section” below the post. Not in my email. My blogs are here to help lots of people and the best way I can do that is to make them public.
Million Dollar Thoughts
This was my response:
“You are at a place in life that you have traveled to. Your destination is a direct result of your actions. You, and no one else, is to thank for that. Everything you have is a result of the way you think and the way you perceive life. If you want a Million dollars, you need to have Million dollar thoughts. They don’t just come overnight. They are a result of abundant thoughts, actions and later reality. Wealth breeds more wealthy thoughts and poverty breed poverized thoughts.
The fastest way to change anything is to change your thoughts.
So you are right. You can’t “do that with nothing”. You need to have the basis first and that is abundant thoughts followed by abundant action.”
Unfortunately, my email bounced and the lady didn’t receive it…
Confucius Say:
To quote old man Confucius (I’m sure it was him), there is an old Chinese saying that sums up the above paragraphs quite nicely:
If you want to see your past, look at your current results.
If you want to see you future, look at your current actions.
Think abundant thoughts and you will eventually have abundant actions.
Every single invention this world has ever seen, started as a dream. If it wasn’t a dream, it was probably a thought spawned from a dream. So why do so many people treat dreamers like they are so different. Sure they are different but that is a good thing. Parents and the education system discourage our children from dreaming by saying things like:
“Stop Dreaming”
“He’s a Day-dreamer. He won’t amount to much”
“You want what? You’re dreaming!“
Dreaming Is The Cornerstone Of Success
Isn’t it funny that we try to stem the flow of success in children at such an early age? Because that is exactly what it is; Success. Dreaming is the cornerstone of creativity and success. How else would you create something totally new, that has never before existed or been possible, that is science fiction now and a part of the future? Children are born with a natural abundance of creativity that most adults lose during their path of conforming into society.
Imagine you have a big idea in your head – perhaps to become a firefighter or to finish college (finally), but you find yourself sabotaging yourself again and again. You make excuses not to research these goals or you simply don’t actively pursue them, even though you long to make them come true. In these situations, you need to ask yourself where your dream is coming from and why you’ve dreamt it in the first place
From the time we are young, we are able to dream about things that are greater than ourselves. Whether it’s material things or it’s experiences, we hold these ideas in our heads. They often come from a longing to make up for something in our lives – for example, if we want to be a doctor, it might be because we’ve seen someone become very ill or we want to follow in the footsteps of our parents or friends.
Dreams can come from:
• Friends
• Family
• Religion
• Media
• Your talents
By discovering the root cause that has spurned you onto certain dreams, you can begin to motivate yourself to actually realize these dreams – even if it seems like they’re far out of reach.
The Image Of Abundant Creativity
Think of a dream for a moment. Maybe one that you had recently. Try to hold this image in your head as a reminder whenever you begin to make excuses or put things off. Or you might want to picture yourself in the dream situation. Think about all of your senses and what it will be like to be a part of your dream. Harness the adundance of creativity that lies within you.
Your dream comes from you and uncovering the “why” will help you get started. Though you might not be living your dream tomorrow, you will start living in the possibility of your dream right now.
In January 2008, Fiji-time was ingrained into my lifestyle for 2 weeks. My wife and 2 sons came with me to Fiji for the 3rd time since late 2004. That was where it all started for me. I’m referring to my turnaround in thinking and my “demise” of financial worries. Fiji was where I went to my first wealth creation seminar and made tremendous breakthroughs as a human being. A “Lifechanging Event” is what I labeled it as. The turning point that literally catapulted my mindset into territory categorized (by the cynics & skeptics) as impossible or “Too Good To Be True”.
I’ve Always Viewed Cynics With Healthy Skepticism!
Pardon the pun. I guess I would never have been any good in the military. I was never a conformer. The phrase “Court-marshal for disobedience” comes to mind. I don’t know, maybe I would have broken to the system. My lack of dogma, my refusal to take someone else’s word for it, made me try time and time again. I failed over and over. Eventually, I hit pay dirt. It took 37 years and it was right in front of me all along. I was blinded by its presence. It’s all in the mind!
YouTube Message of Gratitude From Malolo Island, Fiji
I filmed this video for you on Malolo Island In Fiji. Watch and hear one of my goals that I set in October 2004 whilst at that very wealth seminar that turned it around for me. It is my absolute utmost feeling of gratitude that makes my world go around. Discover that feeling and you have indeed found the Feeling Of Success.
For 2008, my promise and commitment to you is this:
The Promise: To deliver 3 videos like this on SeanRasmussen.com in 2008. One from each of 3 continents of the world. Tough assignment, I know! But someone has to do it…
Motivation: To share my motivation and insights with you. Hopefully, it rubs off. Maybe you can give me some in return. It’s called Universal Law.
Abundance: To show more abundance and gratitude in 2008 than I have in the previous 40 years of my life.
Charity: To donate more to charity than I have ever dreamt of (prior to acquiring an abundant mindset)
Abundance: When Others Zig, I Zag
Whilst in Fiji, I noticed the abundance of happiness amongst the natives. The stress levels seem very low. Yet the lack of money is very apparent. It appears to be the other way around in many countries.
So why do so many people live an average life, while so few have an abundant life? Could it be that the decisions of the “majority” is the recipe for an average life? I’ve changed my thinking to that of the “Minority”. Because it’s the very few that think abundant that have outstanding results, hence they have abundance in their lives.
My results are rolling in now and I have enough to give away to the ones that need more. I learned to Zig when others Zagged. I started to travel the road less travelled. The road to success. And the road to success lies within.
The Malolo Island Bula Band – World First On YouTube
Have a look at this. Meet my friends from Malolo Island: Iliesa on lead guitar, Tevita on drums and Viliame on rhythm guitar. They are The Malolo Island Bula Band playing “Stuck On You” by Lionel Ritchie.
These guys know success. To them it is not monetary. Many Fijians work for the cost of a few cocktails in a 5 star resort, every day. Yet they are happy! They have abundance. Fijians can teach us many things about happiness. Stress is literally unknown to them.
These guys are as honest as the day is long. Bless them all. I filmed them and am sending DVD’s back to the Malolo village so they can all watch The Malolo Island Bula Band in action. There’s more to come. I’m very grateful for meeting them. They are excited to be on YouTube. Some things that others take for granted are a gift from heaven to others.
