Mindset Mastery 73 – On Faith

Mindset Mastery eBookThis Mindset Mastery series installment marks the beginning of the third chapter of the revised edition of Think and Grow Rich. In this chapter, Napoleon Hill explores to the topic of faith—visualizing faith, and believing in the possibility of attaining your desires. We start the chapter with a word from Hill on what faith is.

What Is Faith?

Faith is the head chemist of the mind. When faith merges with thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence, such as in the case of prayer, visualization, or meditation.

The Most Powerful Of Emotions

The emotions of faith, love, and sex are the most powerful of all the major positive emotions. When the three are merged, they have the effect of “coloring” the vibration of thought in such a way that it reaches the subconscious mind instantly; in the subconscious it is changed into its spiritual equivalent, the only form that induces a response from Infinite Intelligence.

Spirituality Aside

You do not need to be a religious person to believe this, either; even the most atheistic of people can admit that there is some part of life which, for lack of better terms and understanding, is best described as the ‘spirit’ of living. Love and faith are psychic; related to the spiritual side of man. Sex is purely biological, and related only to the physical. The mixing, or blending, of these three emotions has the effect of opening a direct line of communication between the finite, thinking mind of man, and Infinite Intelligence.

Personal Faith

Faith is so often linked to religion that we tend to think of them as one and them same; but they are not. Faith is a personal belief system defined as a,

“…confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing”

What we can take away from this is that having faith in your own success is not dependent upon a belief in a God or religion. Having the faith to attaint your desires is simply that. It is a matter of confidence to complement all other aspects of your life for ultimate success.

  1. Great post! You are so right! Most people think that faith is the same as religion. You can have faith in self, and you should before anything else, regardless of your religion, or lack thereof. This is the first article I have seen from this blog, but I will definitely be following from now on!

  4. Sean,

I have never seen such Opportunity Globally than what is presented us in 2009.

Napoleon Hill spelled it out so clearly in 1937 and this IS the TIME for all to re-focus.

  5. Spirituality is the driving force behind human existance. It is the spirit of Infinite Intelligence or God that gives us the energy to connect with ourselves and with others, for surely the body without a spirit is nothing. No communication of a positive and successful outcome can exist between people without the connection of the spirits. There is no doubt everyone has an understanding of the strong bond of intimacy between soul mates -when two spirits collide and unite to compliment each other throughout their lives – without such intense intimacy, this connection can also exist on a general level between ourselves and others in a spirit of love, harmony and understanding en masse to create trust and faith between all people of all nations of the world. How successful would this make us?
Hmm – something to think about.

  6. If just as many people had faith in themselves as there are those who have faith in religion, we would be a much more satisfied, successful and content bunch of people. IMHO.

  7. Jazz Salinger says:

    Hi Sean,

I use the power of visualization often and I try to find the equivalent of what I want in reality. For example, if it’s a new car I want, I visit car shows and car yards to touch and sit in the cars I want to drive. I keep pictures of this car where I can see it every day. These actions help strengthen my faith that one day soon, I will drive this car.

I know the more I strengthen my belief that I will achieve my goals; the closer I get to actually having them. At this point, it takes me some time to develop the belief and the faith that I can really achieve my goals. Hopefully in time I will get better at this.

  8. I think you first need faith in yourself before you can have real faith in something else. Unfortunately we still bring up our kids and tell them about faith mainly in context to something abstract like religion, instead of teaching and encouraging them to have faith in themselves.

It’s great that today we have endless options to learn about these important basics that we should have learned long ago.
    .-= Renee´s last blog ..Overcoming Procrastination =-.

    • Hi Renee,

I think it’s very important to have self confidence. I think life is a little easier for people who have faith in their ability to succeed at anything they try.

You’re right. It’s a lot easier to teach children to have faith in themselves by developing their self confidence. If we can teach them to look inside themselves for the answers to their problems; rather than relying on some external source; they will naturally be self confident.

It can be more difficult to help adults believe in themselves. Still, if we all embrace Napoleon Hill’s teachings; we’ll be just fine.

  9. Just wondering whether anyone has anything to say about faith and sex being emotions. I can understand that love is. But if faith means to have belief, how does one describe that as a “feeling”? And if sex is an act, how does one describe that a feeling?
.-= Lina Nguyen´s last blog ..Richard Branson Business School: A day visit =-.

    • Hi Lina,
I could write a book! (well a couple of chapters, anyway). Your questions are very valid – faith and feeling. Faith is knowing that the fridge is full when you are hungry (because you shopped yesterday), you add feeling to it when you anticipate a meal while going to the fridge eg. ‘I feel like that chocolate icecream with some of that port-wine jelly’ – its the sensory things that are the ‘feelings,’ the rolling of the creamy smooth icecream on your tongue and the flavours of the chocolate etc that adds to the experience.
To visualise well is not just to put a thought up on a screen, but to participate within the experience – to embody it, to live it. Then the sub-conscious says, ‘ooh, so you liked that? I will get you some more” And away you go.

  10. A few observations here. Brain scans show that the sex and fight centers of the brain are closely related. I wonder what this means in relation to Hill’s teachings? Also, Napoleon doesn’t seem to have revealed a lot of his personal life but he was known to have had numerous sexual relationships with women, maybe he was in love with love.

  11. Hi Sean

Faith is a beleif in something or someone, I feel at this stage of my life I can step up to knowing. I know I can succeed, I know and I will.

I have a steely determination to do what I have planned for myself and I am taking action every minute of every day.
